Exploring The Translation Strategies Of Chinese-style Expressions In The Communist Party Of China And The Great Rejuvenation Of The Chinese Nation In 100 Keywords From The Perspective Of Political Equivalence Theory

Since the 21st century,global communication has become more important than ever.With the rise of China,the CPC has attracted increasing attention from the international community.As a result,a series of Party-history-themed books for public communications came out.However,most research on C-E translation of public communications materials merely focuses on contemporary political texts,giving little attention to literature on the Party history.This study takes the Party-history-theming book The Communist Party of China and the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation in 100 Keywords as the research material,exploring 1)what are the translation strategies of Chinese-style expressions in the book,2)How could these strategies be evaluated and explained by the three principles of "political equivalence" theory.The thesis categorizes translation examples by form and function,analyzes the examples with the "political equivalence" theory,and digs into deeper social and political considerations to provide guidance for future translation of historical and political texts.Expressions with Chinese characteristics in this book mainly contain four types:1)concepts unique to Chinese history and 2)political concepts proposed by the,3)fourcharacter expression and 4)Chinese metaphors.The former two categories are mainly foreignized,while the latter two categories are mostly domesticated,where the aesthetic value is subject to information communication.Meanwhile,under the guidance of "political","dynamic" and "balanced" principle,words with strong emotional colors are often omitted,lexical elements violating contemporary values are eliminated through paraphrasing,and expressions conflicting with target readers’knowledge background or historical understanding are neutralized.Currently,with the global discourse system still dominated by the West,the C-E translation of Chinese-style expressions is supposed to prioritize the communication effect,narrate Chinese stories with language favored by TL readers,and establish a sincere and open national image.
