| As a kind of thermal machine,internal combustion engines can constantly provide vehicles with power by burning various types of fuels.Both domestic and foreign studies have been focusing on how to improve the performance of internal combustion engines,and how to increase the efficiency while reducing emissions.In numerous academic research fields on ICE(internal combustion engine),condition monitoring and signal processing have proved to be two of the key aspects that need much attention.Under such circumstances,the translation of ICE-related foreign documents has become one of the priorities of domestic translators.During her internship in Jiangsu Sunyu Information and Technology Co.,Ltd(Sunyu),the author was assigned to translate the technical material,which is entitled Vibro-acoustic Condition Monitoring of Internal Combustion Engines: A Critical Review of Existing Techniques(VACM-ICE).Based on the functional equivalence theory put forward by the American translation theorist,Eugene A.Nida,the present thesis analyzes and discusses the selection of translation strategies and techniques adopted in translating the VACM-ICE with the intention of combining theory with practice.The VACM-ICE text fully embodies the features of an EST(English for Science and Technology)text,which finds expression in three aspects: lexicon,syntax and discourse.Therefore,the author firstly analyzed the source text and compared the differences between Chinese and English in a comprehensive way before determining the proper translation strategies or translation techniques so as to achieve equivalence at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory.The author hopes that translation methods or translation techniques given in the present thesis can function as a reference to those who go in for the translation job of the kind of material. |
