Memory Problems In English-Chinese Consecutive Interpreting Of Ware Culture ——Exemplified By Mock Interpretation Of "China:West Meets East At The Metropolitan Museum Of Art"

The wares are the carrier of culture.As an important part of Chinese civilization,Chinese ware culture has had a significant impact on the development of world civilization.A full knowledge of Chinese ware culture in the eyes of foreigners helps us understand the profound influence of Chinese culture on foreign culture and enhances our cultural self-confidence so that we can better inherit and spread Chinese culture.Therefore,the interpreter chose China: West Meets East at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as materials for this interpretation practice.Intensive terminologies information,background information,and multi-modal information are characteristics of ware discourse,which easily brings a great memory challenge for the interpreter in the process of consecutive interpreting.In this report,the memory problems and corresponding strategies are discussed within the framework of The Effort Model and Schema Theory.The author found that the memory problems caused by the above-mentioned three types of information can be effectively solved by symbol-notes memory,associative memory,and imaginal memory respectively and sometimes collectively.The symbol-notes memory,proposed by the interpreter in line with the characteristics of ware discourse,can effectively improve the memory efficiency and optimize the energy distribution in the process of consecutive interpreting.The above memory skills can provide a certain reference for similar interpretation practices.
