Ben Agger Theory Of Needs And Its Implications

Since the industrial Revolution,human society has made great progress.The level of material productivity is rising day by day,and people’s living conditions have also been greatly improved.However,with the continuous grab of natural resources by human beings,environmental pollution and ecological destruction have become a worldwide problem that restricts the sustainable and healthy development of society.In the process of discussing how man and nature coexist harmoniously,the school of "Ecological Marxism",which came into being in the 1960 s,rose to fame,innovatively analyzed the origin and solution of ecological crisis from a philosophical perspective,and found a theoretical path leading to ecological socialism.Ben Agger,as an important representative of "ecological Marxism",analyzed the origin of alienation need by discussing the relationship between need,consumption and commodity,and on this basis revealed the origin of ecological crisis.Different from Forster and O ’Connor,Agger emphasized that only through the reconstruction of the theory of needs can the satisfaction of human needs be placed in creative labor rather than consumption,and ecological socialism can be established to realize the harmonious coexistence of human and nature.In this sense,Ben Agger’s theoretical reflection on ecological crisis is different from that of other ecological Marxist theorists,and his analysis of the theory of need points out a new ecological theoretical path that needs to be combined with ecology for later generations.This paper first summarizes the research results of Ben Agger’s ecological Marxism at home and abroad,points out the important position of the theory of need in his ecological Marxism,and further discusses and analyzes the necessity of Agger’s theory of need.Secondly,it analyzes the historical background and theoretical source of the formation of Ben Agger’s need theory,and clarifies the theoretical connection between his need theory,Marx’s need theory and Marcuse’s need thought.Thirdly,on the basis of combing the background of The Times and the theoretical origin,this paper discusses the main content of Ben Agger’s need theory,points out the essence of the need change is the need alienation from the change of the contemporary need,and further analyzes the root,consequence and sublation path of the need alienation.By constructing decentralized and non-bureaucratized economic development model and realizing the monism of labor and leisure,we can promote the ecological socialist revolution.Finally,this paper analyzes the theoretical value,realistic value and limitations of Agger’s theory of need,affirms the theoretical characteristics,critical and ecological implications of the theory of need,and negates the utopian nature of his theory and the one-sidedness of his understanding of the inherent contradictions of capitalism.Ben Agger believes that the real needs of human beings lie in creative labor and are related to ecology,which provides important enlightenment to the cultivation of labor values based on creative labor,the construction of green consumption mode and the highlighting of ecological implications of better life in China.
