Research On Rural Literacy Campaign In Neijiang District,Sichuan Province（1950—1960）

From 1950 to 1960,a huge illiteracy campaign was launched in the rural areas of Neijiang,Sichuan.As part of the literacy campaign in New China,the literacy campaign in Neijiang has similarities with the nationwide literacy campaign in all aspects.However,due to the differences in region,economy and population structure.The Neijiang area also showed its own characteristics in the process of literacy campaigns.As a traditional agricultural area,there were a large number of illiterates in the Neijiang area at the beginning of the founding of New China.Whether it is the objective development of the local economy and culture,or the farmers’ desire to acquire knowledge and culture,they all reflect the importance of eliminating illiteracy.There is no delay in this land.In order to ensure long-term and effective literacy work,Neijiang Prefecture,Sichuan has made various efforts under the unified deployment of the central and provincial governments.For example,various forms of publicity and mobilization work have been carried out to effectively call for a large number of rural young and middle-aged people who are out of school to enroll in literacy;improve the organization and leadership structure to ensure the standardization and efficiency of literacy education;focus on the training and selection of literacy teachers;reasonable selection Study teaching materials and deepen the follow-up education of literacy students.Ten years of literacy campaigns have led to a total of 800,000 people who have been literate in Neijiang rural areas,and some of them have been given the opportunity to change their own destiny through literacy education.It provided a large number of reliable labor for the industrialization and socialist construction of New China,and also trained a large number of grassroots management workers.During the implementation of the literacy campaign,due to lack of experience and eagerness for success,the quality and speed of literacy fluctuated over a period of time.But generally speaking,the literacy campaign in the rural areas of Neijiang in the 1950 swas quite effective.The literacy movement in Neijiang rural areas from 1950 to 1960 left us with a lot of experience and enlightenment.For example,the literacy movement should be closely integrated with the actual production and life of the peasants,so as to maintain the people’s enthusiasm for learning and achieve the effect of applying what they have learned;The adoption of teaching methods and methods must be tailored to local conditions and adapt to local conditions;focus on the development of basic education and expand the enrollment rate of school-age children in order to fundamentally curb the growth of illiteracy.At the same time,it should be noted that eradicating illiteracy is a long and arduous process with slower results.Never blindly pursue the speed of literacy and the number of people who are literate.Only by perseverance can we do a good job in literacy.
