| From August 19th to September 11th,2020,the author served as the interpreter for the Doctors of Education Program for China at an overseas university.Due to the spread of covid-19 pandemic,the course that includes four subjects was conducted online,of which Advanced Statistics is the most difficult subject.It mainly involves sampling surveys,inferential statistics,hypothesis testing,probability,etc.The author serves as the interpreter for the professor.This practice report will give a detailed analysis and summary of the interpreting practice during a class of Advanced Statistics,of which the content involves sampling distribution and inferred statistics.Taking the English-Chinese consecutive interpretation in one session of Advanced Statistics as an example,the report mainly discusses three aspects.Firstly,it explores the problems existing in the class interpreting process,including misinterpreting,missing of information,addition of meaning and information redundancy,thus helping the author to obtain a clear understanding of her interpreting ability.Secondly,it analyzes some typical problems in the class interpreting and finds out the causes of the problems,including cognitive overload,language differences,improper use of communicative translation in order to avoid the occurrence of same mistakes in future interpreting.Last but not least,the report lists examples of interpreting strategies including asking for confirmation,deverbalization,restructuring and seeking feedback form students to overcome difficulties in class interpreting.At the end of this report,the author summarizes the interpreting strategies that can be utilized in class interpreting and points out how to avoid repetitive errors in interpreting activities and the efforts needed to improve the author’s interpreting ability so as to guide her interpreting practice in the near future and provide references for other interpreters in their class interpreting practice. |
