A Study On Uyghur Translation Of Agricultural Terms In Chinese News

China is a traditional agricultural country and agriculture has been an important part of the national economy from ancient times to the present day.In recent years,the Party Central Committee has vigorously implemented the strategy of poverty eradication and rural revitalisation,treating agriculture as a key development industry and driving rural revitalisation through precise poverty alleviation in agriculture.In this process,the news,as the main medium for promoting China’s relevant agricultural policies and agricultural development achievements,has used a large number of agricultural terms in its reports.The accurate translation of agricultural terms in the news helps farmers of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang to understand agricultural information,know the agricultural policies of the Party and the state,and improve their agricultural knowledge.Therefore,the following study on the Uyghur translation of agricultural terms in Chinese news is conducted in four parts,based on the theoretical principles of terminology translation in terminology theory,using literature research method,quantitative research method,corpus analysis method and inductive summary method.In the first part,the basis for the selection of the Uyghur translation of agricultural terms is analysed,the purpose and significance of the study and the research method are introduced,a review of relevant studies on agricultural terms and terminology translation principles is conducted,and relevant concepts such as agricultural terms and terminology translation principles are defined.In the second part,the individual applications of the principles of accuracy,transparency,readability,systematization and conventionality in the translation of Chinese agricultural terms are analysed in examples.In the third part,agricultural terms are classified into agricultural pure terms,agricultural sub-terms and agricultural quasi-terms according to their degree of specialisation and scope of use.The methods of dimensional translation of these three types of agricultural terms are sorted out from the perspective of the comprehensive application of terminological translation principles.In other words,the terms agricultural pure terms are mostly translated by direct translation,direct translation plus phonetic translation and direct translation plus paraphrasing,agricultural subterms are mostly translated by paraphrasing and paraphrasing plus direct translation,and agricultural quasi-terms are mostly translated by phonetic translation and direct translation.In addition,agricultural terminology is translated using word addition,word reduction and word conversion techniques.In the fourth part,the problems of mistranslation,omission and non-corresponding translation of agricultural terms in Chinese news from the perspective of terminology translation principles are summarised and suggestions for optimisation are put forward to improve translators’ knowledge of agriculture,identify the context for rigorous translation,and formulate standardised terminology standards.Compared with the translation of ordinary words,the translation of professional terms pays more attention to the completeness,correspondence and systematization of the meaning of the terms,and does not arbitrarily expand or reduce the scope of the meaning of the translated words,especially for long terms with complex structures,and pays more attention to the one-to-one correspondence between form and meaning.
