| This report is based on an on-site interpreting task for international students from Belt and Road countries to a traditional Chinese medicine museum at Jinan.As a study tour on Traditional Chinese Medicine culture,the source text is considered as an informative text.The practice is completed following “Communicative Translation Theory” proposed by Peter Newmark.In this report,useful interpreting strategies have been reviewed and analyzed with typical cases.This report includes the following five parts: The first chapter is the task description,introducing task background,language style of the docent,knowledge background of the target audience;the second chapter is the description of interpreting process,including pre-interpreting preparation,on-site interpreting process,post-interpreting reflection,along with entrusters’ feedback;the third chapter looks at Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory and the application of the theory into informative text;the fourth chapter is case analysis,which is further exemplified in three levels,“Lexical Level,”“Syntactic Level” and “Stylistic Level”.Strategies like annotation,condensation,inversion,amplification,and simplification,etc.,are properly applied to tackle challenges like culture-loaded information,subject-less sentences,information redundancy,illogical information among others;the fifth part is the conclusion,which reviews the whole interpreting practice as an effective self-reflection to inform the future career as a professional interpreter.This report is expected to serve as a reference to the application of Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory in future interpreting tasks. |
