Reading instruction is an essential aspect of the English curriculum in senior high school.However,there are many problems in English reading teaching at this stage.Reading instruction in the current situation focuses more on language knowledge than on reading skills.The reading teaching model is limited to teachers’ teaching and ignores the formation of students’ learning strategies.From the current situation of reading learning,reading comprehension is the shortcoming of students in English learning.The specific manifestations are as follows: students are challenged to grasp the main idea of the article,do not understand the details of the article appropriately,cannot continue reading after encountering obscure words,and have a weak logical reasoning ability in the article.Therefore,it is imperative to adopt appropriate teaching methods to improve students’ English reading ability.According to this new teaching model,the teaching process is divided into three steps based on time.Meanwhile,it also facilitates the teaching of teachers,the internal absorption of students,as well as group discussion.Under the guidance of constructivist learning theory and humanistic learning theory as the theoretical basis,this research applies the PAD Class Model to senior high school English reading teaching.As the research object,the author takes two parallel classes,Class 1 and Class 2,for the first grade of senior high school in XX County,XXX.The experimental class is Class 1,and the control class is Class 2.The teaching experiment was conducted for three months.This study uses the material analysis method,questionnaire method,and test method to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of the PAD Class Model.This study tries to answer the following two questions:(1)What is the current situation of Senior One students’ English reading scores in Senior High School in XX County,XXX?(2)Can the English reading scores of Senior One students be improved under the PAD Class Model? If so,which reading question types(detailed understanding questions,word-meaning guessing questions,logical reasoning questions,and main idea questions)have the most significant improvement?The conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)The current situation of the English reading scores of the Senior One students is not good.Students’ English reading scores were low,with80% of students failing.Students scored less than 60% on detailed understanding questions,word meaning guessing questions,logical reasoning questions,and main idea questions.Among them,the question type with the lowest scoring rate is the main idea question,with a scoring rate of 31.50%.In addition,the questionnaire survey results show that the attitudes,habits,and strategies of students towards reading and reading teaching need to be improved.(2)The PAD Class Model can effectively improve students’ overall English reading scores.The PAD Class Model has the most significant improvement in the three questions in English reading: detailed understanding,logical reasoning,and main idea questions.According to the findings of this study,implementation of the PAD Class Model needs to focus on three aspects.Firstly,continuously improve the professional quality of teachers to implement the teaching model better.Secondly,pay attention to distinguishing the subjectivity and differences of students.Thirdly,constantly optimize the links of The PAD Class Model.
