A Study Of Pure Land Belief In Gao Chang’s Han Buddhismon

Gaochang is located in the fortress of the ancient Western Regions.As an important transit point for the spread of Buddhism,Gaochang brings together a variety of Buddhist ideas.At the same time,the exchange and agitation of various Buddhist thoughts also contributed to the continuous enrichment of Gaochang’s history and culture.Among them,Han Buddhism,as a school of Buddhism developed and sublimated in the Central Plains,was also transmitted back to Gaochang through the Silk Road.The return of Chinese Buddhism to Gaochang not only added more content and beliefs to Gaochang Buddhism,but also enriched the social life of the people in Gaochang.As a concrete product of the Sinicization of Buddhism,the Pure Land belief in Chinese Buddhism has different characteristics from other Buddhist beliefs.In the process of its introduction into China and its development,it has subtly absorbed the nutrients of traditional Chinese culture.To study the pure land belief in Gaochang Han Buddhism is not only to sort out and supplement the history of Gaochang Buddhism,but also to explore the overall influence of the Central Plains culture on the culture of Xinjiang.Based on history and imprinted on traces,it is clear that the Gaochang civilization is actually based on the Central Plains culture and contains historical facts of other cultures.This paper first traces the history of the Pure Land belief introduced into Gaochang,including the emergence of the Pure Land belief in India and its development and perfection after it was introduced into the Central Plains,thereby establishing a complete Chinese Buddhist Pure Land belief system.Secondly,it discusses the historical process of the introduction of the pure land belief of Chinese Buddhism into Gaochang and the development of the pure land belief of Gaochang Han Buddhism formed in Gaochang.Through the narrative of the germination,prosperity,heyday and decline of Gaochang Han Buddhism Pure Land belief in Gaochang,this paper studies the overall development of Gaochang Han Buddhism Pure Land belief in Gaochang.The content and characteristics of the pure land belief in Gaochang Han Buddhism from Gaochang County to Tang Xizhou are described in detail,starting from the four specific pure land beliefs of Maitreya Pure Land,Amitabha Pure Land,Guanyin Pure Land,and Pharmacist Pure Land,analyzing the characteristics of Gaochang Han Buddhism Pure Land belief.Finally,under the overall research on the pure land belief of Gaochang Han Buddhism,it expounds the historical significance of the pure land belief of Gaochang Han Buddhism and its enlightenment to the contemporary.Knowing the past and starting the future.The correct study of history helps us understand the truth of history and draw experience from it.Through the study of the pure land belief of Gaochang Han Buddhism,we can make it clear that Xinjiang has always been inherited from the Chinese lineage,which will help us to enhance the awareness of the Chinese nation’s community,promote cultural enrichment of Xinjiang,and strengthen the identification of people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang with Chinese culture.sense of identification with the Chinese nation.
