Breaking is the Chinese word for floor dancing or break dancing,a dance of great skill and artistry, high difficulty and popularity. The dance originated in the Bronx,New York City,USA in 1970.The dance is free and spirited in content and form, and is much sought after and loved by young people around the world.Since its inclusion as an official event at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018,there has been a surge of young people learning Breaking, which has given the dance a huge boost, and the recent successful submission to the IOC by the Paris 2024 Organising Committee to add Breaking to the programme has taken the dance to a new level of development.Breaking is physically demanding and the quality of core strength has a direct impact on the quality of the movements performed.Core strength is a hot topic of discussion in all sports. Many scientists believe that the ’core’ is the middle part of the body, the area below the shoulder joint and above the hip joint, which includes the thorax, pelvis, hip joint and spine, and is a whole formed by the waist, pelvis and hip joint.Strength is closely related to the core.Experience from dance practice shows that the core muscles play a pivotal role in the stability of movements, the coordination of the upper and lower limbs and the synergy of the movements.Theoretical research in the field of street dance is lagging behind, and research results on the content and methods of core strength training in Breaking dance are rare.In this paper,we use literature to collect theories on core strength training in gymnastics, competitive aerobics,Latin dance, urban choreography,Chinese dance and athletics.Twenty male Breaking athletes aged between 22 and 24 years old were trained for 8 weeks in an inter-group comparison experiment between the experimental and control groups. The experimental process was divided into three training cycles: the basic stage, the consolidation stage and the improvement stage, based on the principles of "Sports Training",and followed the training concept of gradual progression, from simple to complex and increasing difficulty, from unarmed to equipment and from static to dynamic progressive loading. The findings of the study are as follows.(1)Through eight weeks of core strength training, the experimental results showed that specific core strength training had a significant effect on Thomas move,Freeze combo,Six step and Kick out.(2)The Air Flare requires a high degree of muscle connectivity, control and explosive power in all parts of the body, and it is difficult to achieve outstanding results through brief core strength training.(3)The Breaking specific core strength training method studied here has more training value than the traditional core strength method and has a more significant impact on the improvement of technique.(4)The single-handed core training method is less effective than the equipment-based core training method, while the dynamic training method enhances the core strength training effect to a certain extent, and increases the number and speed of completed movements.(5)In core strength training, emphasis should be placed on the balanced training of the core muscles on the left and right sides of the trunk, which is a vital training requirement to facilitate the athlete’s overall mastery of a wide range of movement difficulties.
