English Reading is an important part of English teaching in junior high schools.It can help students accumulate vocabulary,enhance their comprehension,cultivate their reading ability,and lay a solid foundation for their further English learning in the future.However,there exist many problems in the teaching of English reading in junior high schools,such as students’ low interest in reading,few opportunities for interaction and so on.In order to improve the current situation,teachers are supposed to employ new and effective methods for English reading teaching.Cooperative Learning has been proved to be effective by many researchers with convincible evidence.It provides students with abundant opportunities for cooperation,so that students can make progress in mutual communication and cooperation.The purpose of this research is to explore the effectiveness of Cooperative Learning in junior high school English reading teaching.Three research questions are put forward:1.What is the main current situation of English reading teaching and learning in Haihu Middle School of Xining? 2.What effect does the application of cooperative learning have on students’ interest in English learning? 3.What effect does the application of cooperative learning have on students’ English reading scores?The experimental period of this research is from September 2021 to December 2021,a total of three months.Taking class 1 and class 2 of Grade 8 in Haihu middle school of Xining as the research subjects,a total of 88 students.Class 2 is the experimental class and class 1 is the control class.In the control class,the original traditional method is used for English reading teaching,and in the experimental class,cooperative learning is used for English reading teaching.Before the experiment,the researchers conducted a pre-test and a questionnaire survey in the control class and the experimental class,and concluded that the two classes had the same reading level.In the experiment,the two classes used different teaching methods for three months.After the experiment,a post-test and questionnaire survey were conducted,and interview were conducted to understand the experimental effect.After analyzing the results of these data,the following three conclusions are drawn:1.The current situation of English reading in Junior high school of Haihu middle school of Xining is as follows: Students’ reading participation is not high,students’ attitude towards English reading is not positive enough,and students’ interest in English reading is not very high either.2.Cooperative Learning can improve students’ interest in English reading.3.Cooperative Learning can improve students’ English reading scores.This shows that the application of cooperative learning in English reading teaching is effective.Moreover,this study has theoretical and practical significance for junior high school English reading teaching.
