| Key competencies of English subject aims to improve students’ language competence,develop thinking quality,cultivate cultural consciousness,improve learning ability.English reading teaching plays a vital role in improving junior high school students’ comprehensive language ability.Narrative approach organizes teaching from the perspective of narrative and cognition,which can improve students’ cognitive ability and change the situation of English reading,also follows with new curriculum reform.Therefore,from the perspective of key competencies,the author applies the narrative approach to junior high school English reading teaching,and conducts action research.This research contains two research questions:(1)What are the changes of students’ attitude towards English reading after the application of narrative approach from the perspective of key competencies?(2)What are the effects of the narrative approach on students’ reading performance from the perspective of key competencies?This study takes 50 students from class 4,grade 8 at middle school in Shenyang as the research subjects.The research instruments include questionnaires,interviews and tests.This study consists of two rounds of action researches.Based on questionnaires about 50 students,tests,and interviews of six students from different levels,the author finds some problems before the first round of action research: students’ English reading attitude can not be satisfied,which presents in cognition,emotion,and conation three aspects,students’ reading scores are not high,at the same time,students lack key competencies.In the first round of action research,the author applies narrative approach to solve the above problems.After the first round of action research,the author re-identifies significant differences in students’ thinking quality,cultural consciousness and so on,and adjusts the action plan in the second round of action research to narrow differences.After the action research,the author uses SPSS 25.0 software to collect and analyze the two rounds of data,and comes to the conclusion: the application of narrative approach in English reading teaching makes students realize the importance of reading,love English reading more and cultivate their independent learning ability in English reading,students also improve their reading performance by mastering reading skills through narrative activities. |
