The Mysticism Of Lupertz’s Painting And Its Contemporary Value

The great wave of the digital age in the 21 st century is sweeping in,and art,which has lost its aura in the mechanized industrial age,is once again swept into the virtual digital world.In today’s society,where science and technology are highly developed and pragmatism and instrumental rationality are highly respected,the creation of contemporary digital art presents a state of inadequate aesthetics and lack of lasting appeal.However,the "mysticism" that reappears after the disenchantment of art shows people another possibility of contemporary art creation.At the end of the20 th century,art exhibitions around the world have shown the trend of art’s re-charm to varying degrees,showing that artistic creation has shifted from the enthusiasm for technology to the concern for self-consciousness and collectivity.Mysterious things and emotions have become the theme of art,which is opposite to the flatness,trivialization and counter-cultural tendency of contemporary digital art.Traditional painting with mysterious colors not only integrates personal perceptual experience and unconscious creation state,but also retains the texture of real life,forming an extraordinary work with depth,thickness and temperature.This paper takes Markus Luppelz,a giant of German neo-expressionism,as an example to explore how he revitalized art in the judgment that easel painting is outdated,in order to find the value and significance of traditional painting in the digital era.This paper analyzes the philosophical tradition of German mysticism behind the "mysticism" feature of Luppelz’s paintings,and discusses the spiritual core of traditional painting that distinguishes it from digital art,so as to glimpse the future trend of traditional painting.In a contemporary society full of cold machinery and utilitarianism,art that can soothe the heart,touch the soul and stimulate the imagination is especially needed.When science and numbers rob the sense of entity of art,it is more necessary to return the temperature and texture of art to the audience through irreplaceable traditional easel painting.
