Science and art are the two routes for people to understand this world. However, the rational thinking of science and the emotional creating process have more complicated and mutual influence on each other. At the age of Internet and Image, the technology of digital media has had a profound influence on the whole aspects of the society, including arts unavoidably. With the development and application of digital media technology in arts, the power of art’s expressiveness has been dramatically enhanced. The digital media technology offers more options and possibility to the art expressions. The integration of arts and digital media technology is essentially a combination of the science and the humanities.Digital art is constructed on the basis of computer technology, Internet and traditional art techniques. It is a new art expressiveness with the combination of science and sensory perceptions. With the highly development of science and technology, the essence of painting art is gradually redefined by modern medium. In addition, the technology brings more options and methods of art creation. The phenomenon indicates that the foundation of painting art has been changed gradually.As a new form of art creation and expression, digital painting is outstanding with its own characteristics and particularities. On one hand, digital painting is closely related to traditional painting regarding to the art creating skills and philosophy. On the other hand, there are clear distinctions in aspects like transmission, interaction, psychology experience due to the differences in tools and medium. Whether the tradition painting is towards an ending due to the attack of new digital art is still questionable. However, as far as I am concerned, traditional painting is unreplaceable regarding to the long historical culture and characteristics. As creators of digital arts nowadays, it is critical for us to have a deeper insight of the traditional painting art incorporating with the technique of digital media in order to have a comprehensive understanding about the relationship and distinctions between traditional painting and digital painting. It is our responsibility to contribute to the development of art by comparing and integrating these two forms of painting art and to create more lively and valuable arts.This article is aimed at demonstrating the art value of digital painting by illustrating the characteristics and particularity of digital art. What is more, this article also discussed the impacts of digital art techniques on traditional art in order to provide both traditional artists and digital art creators a more comprehensive and clear understanding of their positions. The article is organized as follow:Chapter 2 demonstrates the particularity of visual experience and medium of digital painting.
