It is an E-C translation report based on the MSc Public Health Programme Specification of the University of the West of England Bristol(hereafter referred to as UWE)translated by the translator for UWE.The source text mainly covers the introduction to the programme’s cultivation aims, main features, structure, major courses, information and knowledge of UWE’s pedagogy, assessment and other contents. The original text is university publicity texts in style with the characteristics of accuracy, professionalism and objectivity of official documents. The ST has strict wording and rigorous logic. In the ST,educational abbreviations, technical terms, and semi-technical terms, long sentences of complicated structure and stative expressions abound.Additionally,as publicity texts used for cross-cultural communication and promotional aims,culture-loaded words and brand personality words are rich in the ST.Furthermore, the original text with visual and graphic features of university publicity texts uses the combination of subtitles and short paragraphs, enabling the pattern and form of the ST to be well-organized and leading to frequently-seen disjunctive sentences. In the late 1990s,based on Toury’s research,Chesterman further studied and developed translation norms and thereby formed his translation norm theory.Chesterman mainly proposed two types of translation norms: expectancy norms and professional norms, the latter of which can be further classified into the accountability norm, the communication norm, and the relation norm. The translation project is completed with Chesterman’s norm theory as the guiding theory.Given the linguistic features of the ST,nine concrete translation strategies are applied by the translator, including "explicitness change","loan","paraphrase","visibility change","unit shift","transposition","clause structure change","coherence change","emphasis change" and the use of "four-character structure" to solve specific translation difficulties and problems in the translation process.Specifically, through case analyses, the translator has found that to fulfil the responsibility norm, strategies of "explicitness change",“loan”,and "paraphrase" can be used to restore the professional and precise use of words and highlight the role of the translator in translation. To comply with the communication norm, three translation strategies of "visibility change","unit shift",and "clause structure change" can be adopted to ensure the understandability and readability of the translation and to achieve the optimal communication between the original text author and the target language readers on the premise of accurately conveying information. To comply with the relational norm,"coherence change","emphasis change",and "four-character structures" can be used to establish and maintain the appropriate similarity of form and publicity effect of the ST in the TT.Currently, there are a few translation practices and research on this type of text. The translator hopes this translation report can provide a reference for translating similar texts and insights into studies on the translation of university publicity texts.
