“The Nightingale and the Rose”,One of Oscar Wilde’s classic fairy tales,is an exquisitely conceived opus. After more than half a century,it is still popular and unremittingly researched by scholars. However, the content and language styles of the translations in different periods are disparate. The reason is that translators are in different eras with different ideologies and dominant poetics, leading to their disparate personal poetics. This thesis analyzes two translations from different eras of“The Nightingale and the Rose”.Based on Lefevere’s rewriting theory,I compare and study the differences between the two translations from the aspects of ideology and poetics. From the perspectives of words, language,or others,I use cases study to analyze how the two translators deal with the translation respectively under the influence of the social environment. The research has found that after the New Culture Movement, people began to accept new ideas and cultures. However, when Ba Jin translated “The Nightingale and the Rose,” China was in the 1940 s and 1950 s.At that time, the Anti-Japanese War had just won,and people had not had time to celebrate the arrival of peace because the Civil war broke out in China. Therefore,Ba Jin’s translation of children’s literature, enlightening and educating children, also reinvigorates the criticism of the social reality and sympathy for the masses.Ba Jin’s lucid vernacular Chinese in elegant taste has suited children’s cognitive level and reading habits of children.Besides, the audience of the translated version expands to ordinary people, arousing their awakening and resistance. In the new era, literary works show the characteristics of diversification.Chinese society is becoming more and more tolerant of literary works.Translation studies are flourishing, especially for children’s literature translation, which has changed from a marginal position to the focus of translation studies.Zhu Chunshen’s translation has the characteristics of new era literature, and his language is concise and fluent, authentic and natural. The diachronic comparative study of the two translation versions of the children’s literature in the New Culture Movement and the new period renders unique revelatory value to the translation study of children’s literature.By studying the translation style and language characteristics of the same literature in different periods,it demonstrates the necessity of translation rewriting, which enriches theoretical research for children’s literature translation research and at the same time enables the excellent vitality of literary translations to be inherited.
