| As one of the media of scientific and technological communication,popular science works play a vital role in social production and life.In recent years,with the improvement of environmental protection awareness at home,popular science works on ecological protection have received increasing attention.Thus,the translation of such works has also become a research hotspot.When it comes to ecological protection works,American writer Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring(2002)is an alarming work.Published in 1962,this work was first introduced into China by Science Press,and its translation by Lyu Ruilan was published in 1979.In recent years,Slient Spring(2002)has ushered in a climax of retranslation.Traditional translation theories are centered on the original text,and the degree of fidelity is used as the standard to measure the quality of the translation.Therefore,the translation and the translator are in a marginalized position.The same is true for popular science translation,mostly focusing on fidelity and scientificity while ignoring literariness and interestingness.Fortunately,since the “cultural turn” in translation studies,the translation field has started researches centered on the target language and the translator,and the translator’s subjectivity has subsequently become an important topic in translation studies.This trend is reflected in translation practice,showing the translator’s dominant position in the processing of the translation,inc Lyuding the control of the style and content of the translation,and so on.Specifically,the Chinese versions of Silent Spring(2002)launched in recent years are quite different from the first version in terms of style.The translators have corrected the biased discussion in the original work,and used appropriate translation methods and skills in the translation process to correct the errors in the original work.It is also a clear manifestation of translator’s subjectivity.The thesis is guided by the theory of translator’s subjectivity,with the oldest version of Lyu Ruilan(hereinafter referred to as Lyu’s version)and the version of Zhang Baihua(hereinafter referred to as Zhang’s version)published by Peking University Press in 2015 as the research texts to compare the embodiment of the translator’s subjectivity in two versions through the choice of translation strategies and different translation styles,and explore the embodiment of the translator’s objectivity in two versions through the analyses of the socio-historical context of different times.In a word,the thesis works to sum up the specific methods and techniques for the translation of popular science works. |
