A Report On The E-C Translation Of Passion＆Affect （Excerpts） Under The Guidance Of Newmark’s Translation Theory

In recent years,with the development of economy,China’s international status is greatly enhanced,and communication between Chinese and foreign cultures is also greatly enhanced.A large number of literary works,especially English novels,as an important carrier of cross-cultural communication,have flooded into the horizons of Chinese readers and injected a fresh force into their cultural life during this process.Therefore,it is very important to translate and study English literary works.The materials selected for this translation practice report are stories from Passion and Emotion written by an American writer Laurie Colwin.This book is a collection of instructive stories,and the author mainly extracts the first three chapters for translation.The author hopes that the Chinese translation of this book can provide some reference and help to Chinese readers in their life and learning.When life meets difficulties,people can cheer themselves up,rekindle their courage and motivation for life,and follow their heart to make more ideal choices.The author hope readers can see the negative case,learn from the experience and lessons to avoid similar problems.The author met many problems in the translation process,mainly focusing on the processing of some words,phrases and long and difficult sentences.In terms of the problems met in the translation process,the author combined Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation to solve them.The descriptions of environment,actions,portraits and the language of the characters in novels can reflect characters’ personalities and psychology,portray the character image,and better express the character’s emotions.As there are many descriptions of environment,action,portrait and language in the selected text,it is necessary to achieve accurate translation as far as possible,reflect the personality and psychological changes of the characters as accurately as possible,portray the characters more appropriately,and pay attention to the characteristics of literary translation.Therefore,this translation practice report mainly focused on some environment,action,portrait and language description in the selected text,and found corresponding translation methods to solve relevant problems in the form of case analysis.Under the guidance of Newmark’s translation theory,the dialogue content is handled more reasonably in order to bring readers a better experience.Through this translation practice,the author has a deeper understanding of the application of translation theory and also has a further comprehension of translation work.In addition,the author also analyzes the limitations of this practice,hoping to provide reference for future translation practice.
