| As a receptive skill,English listening has received attention in the field of language teaching.There exist quite a few studies on the application of multimodal teaching model in listening classrooms,but few studies have been conducted among art student groups.This study aims to provide reference for improving the listening instruction of art students.Based on systemic functional linguistics theory and multimodal discourse analysis theory,and using research tools such as interview,classroom observation,questionnaire,and test to collect and analyze data,this action research took 41 freshmen majoring in art in a class at Guangxi N Normal University as research subjects,attempting to explore the following issues: 1)To what extent does the first-round of research help the students solve the listening problem in terms of vocabulary,interest,and anxiety? and 2)To what extent does the second-round research help the students enlarge their vocabulary,increase related background knowledge,and facilitate the skill of grasping detailed information?Results showed that multimodal teaching mode in college English listening class helps art students 1)expand their vocabulary,increase their interest in English listening,reduce their learning anxiety,generate a positive effect on their listening attitude,facilitate their classroom behavior and enhance their self-confidence;and 2)better expand and consolidate their vocabulary,increase relevant background knowledge,improve skills of grasping detailed information,facilitate their independent learning and group work,and improve their test scores.Based on the research results,this study makes some recommendations for both teachers and students.For teachers,they are to make full use of multimodal teaching resources and develop multi-means in English listening class so as to help students enlarge vocabulary,arouse interest,reduce anxiety,initiate background knowledge,improve listening skills,and keep interaction with students.As far as the students are concerned,they are to acquire access to multimodal resources as much as possible,and to learn to become more independent and more interactive at multi-levels. |
