This translation practice report is selected from The Geography, which is provided by Zhong Ke Yao Hua Education and Technology Limited Liability Corporation in Beijing. It belongs to the field of geography in the history of scientific development. This book consists of eight volumes. The author selects Introduction and Chapters Ⅰ to Ⅻ of Volume Ⅰ as the contents of the practice report. The translation requirement of this book is to convey the original information faithfully and accurately to the reader. The core principle of Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory stresses using the closest and most natural equivalence to reproduce the original information, which emphasizes the equivalence of content rather than just the equivalence of form.Nida’s functional equivalence theory also pays attention to the needs of readers and emphasizes the response of target language readers should be close to that of source language readers. Therefore, this theory is consistent with the requirements of scientific and technological text translation to a great extent.Functional equivalence theory plays a guiding role in the translation of scientific and technological texts. This translation task is also done under the guideline of the theory of functional equivalence. This translation practice report is guided by the theory of functional equivalence, combined with the cases of the translation process, and discusses how to effectively convert translations in terms of vocabulary and sentences respectively,so as to improve the readability of translations. Finally, the author analyzes and summarizes the entire translation process.
