Recent years have witnessed the rapid development of China,accompanied by increasing economic strength and comprehensive national power,and rising international status.In this context,Chinese culture has gradually become the focus of attention of all countries in the world.The Central Asian countries bordering China’s Xinjiang region have assumed the important geographical role of being the necessary destinations along the ancient Silk Road.In recent years,with the increasingly frequent political,economic and cultural exchanges between China and the Central Asian countries,the demand for Chinese language talents has been increasing.The Confucius Institute at Osh State University in Osh,Kyrgyzstan,has an invaluable role to play in training Chinese language talents under the “the Belt and Road Initiative”economic construction.This thesis is dedicated to examine the teaching methods used by local Chinese teachers in teaching Chinese culture in intercultural communication and the students ’ learning of Chinese culture in the Confucius Institute of Osh State University,as well as the curriculum arrangement and so on.Through the use of interviews and questionnaires,the problems of local teachers in communicating Chinese culture in the classroom are analyzed and corresponding improvements are proposed.This thesis is divided into seven parts,of which the first part is the introduction,which covers the background of the study,the significance of the selected topic,the research ideas,and the research review.The second part of the thesis is concerned with the overview of the Confucius Institute of Osh State University in Kyrgyzstan.This chapter introduces the current development of the Confucius Institute of Osh State University in Kyrgyzstan,the management model,the status of the teaching staff,the current situation of Chinese language teaching by local teachers,and the basic situation of teaching Chinese culture courses.The third part of the thesis describes the survey of Chinese culture communication in local teachers ’classrooms,which mainly includes the survey subjects,survey contents,survey methods and survey steps.The survey methods used are questionnaires,interviews,and classroom observations.The fourth part of the thesis combines the abovementioned survey methods to conduct a statistical survey of teachers and students,with the focus on the communication of Chinese culture in the classrooms of local Chinese teachers at the Confucius Institute of Osh State University.The fifth part of the thesis is about teacher’s problems in the classrooms of local Chinese teachers:the lack of teaching experience of local teachers,the lack of accumulated knowledge of Chinese culture,the discrepancy between the teaching objectives of local teachers and the syllabus,and the lack of time for teaching cultural lessons to meet the learning needs of students.In the sixth part,the author analyzes the problems of local teachers in communicating Chinese culture with the help of students’ feedback and classroom observations.The seventh part is devoted to the concluding remarks and research outlook.As a conclusion to the whole text,this part expresses the hope that it can provide reference suggestions for further development of Chinese culture communication in the classrooms of Confucius Institute of Osh State University in the future.
