The National English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2020Revised Edition)proposes to cultivate students’ thinking ability and problem-solving ability in question situations.The thinking ability includes the ability of logic,criticism and innovation and the critical thinking ability consists of critical thinking disposition and critical thinking skills.There is no doubt that reading class is an important place to cultivate students’ critical thinking disposition.Therefore,this study explores the correlation between the types of question situation setting and students’ critical thinking disposition in the English reading class of senior high school.Finally,some suggestions are put forward on the effective setting of question situation in reading class.The purpose of this study is to answer the following three research questions:(1)What is the students’ cognition of question situation setting in English reading class?(2)What is the general situation of senior high school students’ critical thinking disposition?(3)Is there any correlation between the types of question situation and students’ critical thinking disposition in the English reading class of senior high school? If so,how relevant is it?The present study chooses 224 students in the second year of senior high school in Suqian City,Jiangsu Province as the research subjects using the question-setting type questionnaire,critical thinking disposition questionnaire and the interview outline as the research tools.Then SPSS23.0 is used to analyze the collected data to find out the current situation of question situation setting and students’ critical thinking disposition,on this basis,the correlation between the two is further explored.The results show that:(1)The senior high school students’ cognition of question situation is mainly from the frequency of question situation setting in the English reading class and the frequency of question situation setting in the English reading class is in the middle level.Among them,the frequency of exploring and understanding type is in the high frequency level while that of representing and formulating,planning and executing as well as monitoring and reflecting are in the medium frequency level.(2)The critical thinking disposition of senior high school students generally presents positive thinking disposition and reaches the medium level of positive thinking disposition.(3)There is a moderate positive correlation between the types of question situation setting and students’ critical thinking disposition in senior English reading class.Furthermore,there is a positive correlation between the four types of question situation and students’ critical thinking disposition.Specifically,the correlation between the four types of question situation and students’ critical thinking disposition from high to low are as follows: planning and executing type,exploring and understanding type,representing and formulating type and monitoring and reflecting type.Finally,this study finds that the question situations of exploring and understanding,representing and formulating as well as planning and execution have a positive effect on the students’ critical thinking disposition,among which the exploring and understanding type and the planning and executing type have a relatively strong predictive function for critical thinking disposition while the representing and formulating type has a weak predictive function.Based on the above research results,this paper recommends corresponding suggestions on how to set up question situation effectively so as to improve students’ critical thinking disposition,expecting to provide certain valuable reference for the follow-up related research.
