A Report On Business Negotiation Interpreting In Qingdao Jingbao Arts＆Crafts Limited Company

With the further development of world economic integration,business interpreting has become an indispensable element in sino-foreign business negotiation.Meanwhile,interpreters play an important role as a bridge between the negotiation parties.The ultimate goal of business interpreting is to promote communication and cooperation between negotiation parties.As the Skopos theory holds that the purpose of translation activities determines what translation strategies and methods translators should adopt,it has a prominent guiding significance in the practice and application of purposeful business interpretation.Based on the author’s practical experience in business negotiation interpreting in Jingbao Arts and Crafts Company,this report mainly analyzes how to apply the three major rules of the Skopos theory to guide the business interpreting practice.In this report,the author first describes the background,characteristics and process of the business interpreting task.After the description,she introduces the core concept of the Skopos theory and the three major rules put forward by the Skopos theory,namely the skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.Then the author reviews the literature on business interpretation under the Skopos theory.Guided by the Skopos theory,the author analyses the difficulties encountered in the interpreting practice,such as unknown terminology,condensed information and negotiation conflicts,and puts forward corresponding interpreting strategies.For unknown terminology,the author adopts interpreting strategies of paraphrase,inference and enquiry guided by the fidelity rule and the coherence rule.As for the condensed information,she chooses the strategies of syntactic linearity and reorganization based on the coherence rule to promote mutual understanding and enhance the communicative effect.In addition,the author takes flexible interpretation and adaptation appropriately according to the skopos rule to resolve some conflicts in business negotiation.Finally,the author summarizes her interpreting experience with reflection.For the lack of relevant literature on business interpreting practice in the arts and crafts industry,the author hopes her summary would provide some references for the interpreters who engage in the interpretation for this industry.
