In the field of foreign language education,there is a more powerful driving force to make intercultural communication research imperative,that is,the majority of teachers and students realize that language competence education is far from meeting their needs,and intercultural communication competence is the ultimate goal of foreign language education.Moreover,language education should be cultural education to a large extent(Jia,1997).“English Curriculum Standard” in 2001 officially issued and implemented,the “cultural awareness” for the first time as an important component of the comprehensive ability to require clearly.“General Senior high school Curriculum Standards(2017)” and the core literacy of English discipline have explicitly pointed out that in high school English teaching the importance and necessity of cultivating students’ cultural awareness in high school English teaching,which can be seen that cultural awareness has become an indispensable part of English teaching content.However,under the influence of exam-oriented education,the cultivation of cultural awareness has been neglected.The reason why this thesis chooses the theme of senior high school English teachers’ intercultural awareness is that,one the one hand,the cultivation of students’ intercultural awareness is dependent on the correct guidance of the teachers,so focusing on teachers’ intercultural awareness is the necessary premise to cultivate students’ intercultural awareness,on the other hand,the high school is an important turning point for students to transition to university and also an essential stage for the development of students’ intercultural awareness.Therefore,this thesis aims to investigate the current situation of English teachers’ intercultural awareness and its influencing factors in M city.Based on the perspective of intercultural awareness,the author adopts the methods of cultural test,questionnaire and interview to investigate English teachers in senior high school in M city,aiming to explore the following two questions:(1)What is the current situation of English teachers’ intercultural awareness in senior high school in M City?(2)What are the factors that affect senior high school English teachers’ intercultural awareness?The main findings of this study are as follows: First of all,the current situation of English teachers’ intercultural awareness in senior high school in M city is at the medium-low level.Second,the factors affecting the cultivation of senior high school English teachers’ intercultural awareness include objective and subjective aspects,specifically,the restriction of current examination system;the imperfection of evaluation criteria;the lack of target language environment;the lack of teacher training;and the backwardness of teachers’ educational ideas.Based on the above influencing factors,the author puts forward strategies and suggestions to cultivate the intercultural awareness of senior high school English teachers.For example,teachers should establish correct cultural views and strengthen the study of intercultural knowledge.School should create an English cultural atmosphere as much as possible.The education department should strengthen the cultural training of English teachers.
