| Since its establishment,MTI has maintained a strong development momentum,but it has also exposed some problems to be solved urgently.Moreover,researches on MTI students are scarce.By drawing on the L2 Motivational Self System as the conceptual framework,this case study employs semi-structured interviews to investigate MTI students’ motivational changes for two semesters.The researcher took four MTI students as the core participants.They participated in five rounds of interviews,each lasting about 45 minutes.Three research questions are addressed:Does MTI students’ learning motivation change during learning? If it changes,how?What factors influence MTI students’ learning motivational changes? How to maintain and stimulate MTI students’ learning motivation?Through the analysis and comparison of the data collected,it is found that the L2 Motivational Self System of the four participants is in dynamic change.Specifically,their Ideal L2 Self shows a relatively stable trend;their Ought-to L2 Self becomes stronger,and their L2 Learning Experience undergoes different development,either obviously changing and developing or delivering insignificant changes.The factors affecting MTI students’ motivation are diverse,mainly in the following aspects: the learner-related factors,the teacher-related factors,the learning environment,and other factors.Within the learner dimension,the factors mainly include self-efficacy and sense of achievement.The teacher-related factors include teachers’ personal charisma,teaching methods,and teaching feedback.Other factors are mainly from family,peers and scholarship.Based on research findings,suggestions are put forward to maintain and stimulate the learning motivation of MTI students.As for MTI students,they should carry out corresponding training to improve their professional quality and build a promotional instrumentality.They should devote themselves to learning translation knowledge to meet certain expectations or avoid negative results and establish preventative instrumentality.As for the MTI educators,it is necessary to cultivate MTI students’ interest in translation learning to help them develop integrative motivation.The training institutes should create a good learning environment to activate learners’ learning enthusiasm and help them to establish learning situation motivation. |
