A Study Of EST Interpreting From The Perspective Of Semantic And Communicative Translation Theory ——Taking Samsung’s Launch Events In 2021 As An Example

With the increasing speed of globalization,the development of scientific and technological products is in the ascendant.Electronic product launches are one of the most direct and effective ways to publicize scientific and technological products.EST interpreting plays an indispensable role in electronic product launches.In recent years,more and more interpreting researchers have studied EST interpreting from different perspectives,but less research has been conducted on EST interpreting from the perspective of semantic and communicative translation theory,which opens up another new perspective for the study of EST interpreting.Semantic translation and communicative translation are the main contributions of the famous translator Newmark to translation theory,and these two translation methods occupy an important position in contemporary Western translation theory.Based on semantic and communicative translation theory,this thesis takes the English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation of Samsung’s launch events in 2021 as the corpus to study EST interpreting.This thesis analyzes EST interpreting of Samsung’s launch events from the principles of semantic translation theory and communicative translation theory,respectively.In addition,the interpreting techniques used in the interpretation of Samsung’s launch events are also summarized.This thesis adopts the qualitative analysis method to study the relevant examples and finds that:（1）The principles of semantic translation theory are feasible in the interpretation of Samsung’s launch events.Due to the technical characteristics of EST interpreting,the interpreter is required to objectively convey the true meaning of the speaker.Reserving the language form and style of the original text can express the speaker’s thoughts and feelings.（2）The principles of communicative translation theory are feasible in the interpretation of Samsung’s launch events.Since the purpose of Samsung’s launch events is to help consumers get the latest information on products,the interpreter is required to convey the speaker’s intention as accurately as possible from the perspective of the target language audience,so as to obtain better communicative effects.（3）The interpreting techniques such as amplification,omission,and conversion can be applied in the interpretation of Samsung’s launch events.Appropriate addition,deletion,and rewriting of the original text can improve the quality of EST interpreting.Interpreters must combine the characteristics of EST interpreting and flexibly use the corresponding interpreting techniques.This thesis studies EST interpreting from the perspective of semantic and communicative translation theory,hoping to be helpful for the future research on EST interpreting.
