As the crucial way of obtaining and analyzing information,reading is one of the four basic skills,which has profound impacts on the English learning ability.With years of relevant researches,the English reading teaching in China has made some remarkable progress,but there are still many problems in the daily teaching practice.The teaching of English reading in China is still caught in the trap of emphasizing learning over practice and emphasizing scores over ability,which greatly reduces the learning effects of the students in class,and it is difficult to really enhance their English reading competence.On account of this series of problems,the author attempts to implement the Production-oriented Approach into the English reading teaching practice in senior high school,so as to improve students’ reading ability.The Production-oriented Approach,proposed by Wen Qiufang,is a new teaching approach in view of the disadvantages of Chinese students in learning English.This method is based on the “output-driven hypothesis” and consists of three steps: driving force,promotion and evaluation.It focuses on the optimization of the students’ output ability and the improvement of classroom teaching efficiency.On the one hand,the Production-oriented Approach emphasizes the dominant role of students and advocates to stimulate students’ interest;on the other hand,it attaches much importance to the leading position of the teachers and advocates that the teachers should play an intermediary role in teaching practice.After several years of development,the Production-oriented Approach has gradually formed a complete theoretical system,which has been well received by the teachers and students,and extends from the application of college English teaching to the English teaching practice in basic education.In the research,the author intends to do the researches based on the three questions:1.What is the current situation of the English reading competence of senior high school students?2.Compared with the traditional teaching method,what are the effects of the Production-oriented Approach on improving the students’ English reading competence in senior high school?3.How do the teachers better combine the Production-oriented Approach with the English reading teaching practice in senior high school to improve the students’ English reading competence?The research object of this study is 100 students from the No.2 Senior Middle School in Yingkou Development Zone.It lasted for one semester.The experimental class was taught based on the Production-oriented Approach,and the traditional teaching method was used in the control class to conduct the control experiment.This research will use questionnaires,interviews,tests and so on.The survey data will be further analyzed through SPSS26.0 to explore the current situation of the senior high school students’ English reading ability and the positive impact of the Production-oriented Approach on the improvement of students’ English reading ability.At present,the senior high school students have some problems in English reading learning,such as low interest,lack of necessary skills,lack of flexibility and awareness of strategic reflection.In addition,through the teaching experiments,the author found that the experimental class showed varying degrees of progresses in the English reading motivation,reading skills,reading flexibility and reading strategies compared with the control class,and reflected in different levels of the students.When teaching English reading with the Production-oriented Approach,the teachers should have a certain understanding of the learning situation of the class and analyze the specific problems to maximize the efficiency of the teachers’ teaching and the students’ learning.
