| As a basic part of English language,vocabulary plays an important role in English reading.The higher the quality of vocabulary teaching,the smoother the progress of reading teaching,which also provides a powerful boost to the comprehensive development of reading ability,thinking ability and expression ability of senior high school students.However,the author finds in the process of teaching practice that although some English teachers attach great importance to vocabulary teaching,they have different problems when explaining vocabulary in actual reading teaching.And they are not clear about how to improve the efficiency of vocabulary teaching more scientifically.Therefore,the author believes that it is necessary to investigate the situation of vocabulary teaching in senior high school English reading class.Based on Context Theory,Krashen’s Input Theory and Constructivism Theory,this paper aims to discover the problems in English reading teaching in senior high schools and analyze the causes.This study takes high school English teachers in M city as the research object and focuses on the following two questions:(1)What are the problems of vocabulary teaching in reading class in senior high school?(2)What causes these problems? The author firstly observes and records eight reading lessons including vocabulary teaching,then selects95 English teachers to conduct a questionnaire survey,and finally interviews six experienced teachers.Through classroom observation,questionnaire and interview,the author finds the main problems in vocabulary teaching in senior high school English reading are as follows:(1)unclear vocabulary teaching goal,that is the vocabulary teaching content is too comprehensive and the key and difficult points are not prominent(2)isolated vocabulary teaching and reading teaching,that is teachers are not make full use of context in vocabulary teaching(3)single and inflexible teaching methods which are difficult to raise students’ interest(4)low participation of students in class and negative feedback(5)lacking of guidance for students’ learning methods and thinking.The reasons of these problems are:heavy teaching tasks,backward teaching concepts,and ignoring students’ feelings and their subject status.To solve above problems,the author gives the following suggestions:(1)according to the different course demands,clarify vocabulary teaching goal(2)rich curriculum mode and improve teachers’ professional skills(3)teach vocabulary in the context(4)design colorful teaching activities and create active class that students can participate in(5)focus on the guidance of students’ learning methods and thinking.By investigating the situation of vocabulary teaching in senior high school English reading class,this paper studies the existing problems and the main reasons.The purpose is hoping to attract teachers’ attention,improve vocabulary teaching efficiency,and provide a guidance for front-line English teachers. |
