Recent decades have witnessed the surge of carbon dioxide, which leads to green house effect, global warming, seawater acidification and other consequences. To improve the ecological environment, countries all over the world advocate energy saving and emission reduction and China also strives to achieve the goal of peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality before the year 2030 and 2060 respectively.Against this backdrop, translating texts concerning carbon dioxide is meaningful. The source text of the translation practice is the selected five chapters from sci-tech text The Legacy of Carbon Dioxide: Past and Present Impacts written by American scientist Paul J Karol. These selected chapters deal with the discovery of carbon dioxide, the structure of carbon dioxide, air, weathering and fossil fuels respectively. The source text of this translation practice is difficult since it is filled with graphs, chemical equations and somewhat vague physical, chemistry and geological knowledge. In the translation process, the translator takes advantage of Yicat and other computer-aided tools,Google,Bing and other search engines,as well as online resources such as the United Nations Terminology Library,Terminology Online and online dictionaries to ensure translation quality.Based on the “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”(CEA)framework put forward by Li Changshuan and Lynette Xiaojing Shi,this translation report deals with how the translator understands the text, expresses the meanings, and makes adaptations. As to “comprehension”,both internal aids and external aids are resorted to in the translation practice. As to “expression”,four ways, namely avoiding Euro-Chinese,ensuring smooth flow of information, ensuring conciseness and conversion of part of speech are proposed in this translation practice report. As for “adaption”,four aspects such as addition, reformation, correcting mistakes of the source text as well as combination and deletion are mentioned. This translation report mainly consists of five parts. The first part introduces translation background, the source text, significance and the report structure. The second part is about process description, which consists of preparation before translation, translation process and post-translation.The third part is framework analysis, introducing the CEA framework. The fourth part is case analysis. In the fifth part, conclusion is shown, which includes gains, findings as well as limitations.
