| With the continuous deepening of globalization, international relations have received more and more attention in China in order to keep up with the trend of development. But compared with other developed countries the reality is the study of this subject is still lagging behind in China. This article is an English-to-Chinese translation practical report. The translated text is Chapter 5 of the international relations book Sailing the Water’s Edge:The Domestic Politics of American Foreign Policy, which is co-authored by famous American scholars Helen Milner and Dustin Tinley. The text mainly describes the foreign policy of the United States and the "confrontation" of power between the US president and the Congress.Through statistics, the translator has found that the separation structure has appeared in the text for 48 times, the nominalization structure has appeared for 16 times, and the compound word has appeared for 23 times, which fully demonstrates their universality.Referring to separation structure, the translator mainly analyzes the separation of the attributive(clause)and antecedent,as well as the separation of subject and predicate;for the nominalization structure, the translator focuses on the analysis of verb-derived,adjective-derived,and sentence-derived structure;for compound words, the translator mainly emphasizes the two translation methods:literal translation and free translation.By this paper, the author hopes to provide a reference for later scholars in international relations research. |
