On The Creation And Performance Interpretation Of Clara Schumann's Piano Variations

Clara Schumann(1819-1896)was a famous German female pianist,composer,and educator.As one of the few musicians in the Romantic period of the nineteenth century,she has performed on stage since age nine and lasted until her final performance at age 71.She has dedicated her life to piano performance.Her achievements were remarkable and she made a profound impact on piano performers for the future generation.In addition,she was an excellent composer and pedagogue.She published a total of 23 works in her lifetime,most of which were dance music and variations with beautiful and rich melodies.This article focused on two different variations written in different periods of her life.This essay will analyze the historical background and followed by comparing the two variations.By understanding the similarities and differences in changes of her compositional style,the writer hopes to uncover the underlying motifs to help performers in their interpretations.
