Picture books are becoming popular in China in recent years.As a new form of teaching,picture books teaching is recognized by more and more front-line teachers and experts.English picture books have rich themes,novel contents,bright pictures and simple texts.They are popular English learning materials for students.The application of English picture books in class can effectively attract students’ attention,enhance their interest in learning,improve their learning initiative,and cultivate their imagination and creativity.Different from the traditional oral teaching mode,the use of English picture books in teaching activities,teaching materials and English picture books will be integrated in the teaching content,the material is more abundant;the teaching form is not rigidly adhere to the traditional teaching form,the variety of changes,can create a good pragmatic environment for students,improve students’ oral input and output opportunities,to improve the purpose of oral ability.Teachers will encounter some problems in the process of using English picture books in oral English teaching activities.This paper will share teaching steps and specific teaching cases from the basic principles and implementation strategies of picture books teaching.In view of the problem that English picture book teaching can effectively improve the oral ability of junior students,the author took the two classes of Grade Two in H primary school in Nankai District as the research object for one semester.The research shows that:(1)Compared with the control group,the effect of English picture book teaching on improving the oral English ability of the lower grade students is obvious.(2)English picture book teaching can promote students’ interest in learning English.Through the collation and analysis of the experimental data,the conclusion is drawn that the oral English Teaching of picture books is helpful to improve the oral English ability of junior students,and has a positive role in stimulating students’ interest in learning and learning initiative.
