Vocabulary is not only the basic unit of sentence and discourse,but also the basis of communication,writing,etc..It plays an important role in English learning.The vocabulary level of a student directly affects his/her comprehensive ability of using English.Therefore,English vocabulary plays an important role in both English teaching and learning.As an important part of China’s education system,middle school education is a very important step in the compulsory education stage.Its purpose is to meet the needs of students to continue learning English and lay a solid foundation for their lifelong development.The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 edition)clearly points out that vocabulary teaching should not only help students improve their vocabulary,but also ensure that students can flexibly use familiar English vocabulary.However,from the current practice of vocabulary teaching in middle schools,we know that,affected by the law of memory,students would constantly forget the vocabulary they have had learned,which results in great difficulty in the accumulation of students’ vocabulary.Therefore,it is necessary to adopt scientific methods to strengthen students’ short-term memory and transform it into long-term memory,so as to improve the effect of memory and improve the level of vocabulary application.English vocabulary review is a common way to enhance vocabulary memory,but how to use scientific and reasonable means to effectively strengthen the English vocabulary review in English teaching hasn’t been paid enough attention.The mind map can simultaneously use the functions of the left and right brains,the rules of people’s thinking,reading,and memory to establish a memory link between keywords and images,colors,etc.,and follow the radioactive characteristics of the brain to achieve balanced development of imagination and logic.Therefore,mind map has been gradually applied to the practice of English vocabulary teaching,which is closely related to the characteristics of mind map.However,till now there are not many studies on the application of mind map in English vocabulary review,and not enough theoretical basis and empirical studies for reference.Therefore,under the guidance of Constructivism,Theory of Knowledge Visualization,and Memory Processing Hierarchy Theory,through experimental method,questionnaire survey and other research methods,We selected 51 students from the 7th class of grade 2 in a middle school of Wanzhou as research object,and studied the feasibility and results of English vocabulary review by applying mind map in concrete classroom teaching and try to answer the following three questions:1.Can the application of mind mapping in the English vocabulary review class of middle school help students promote the effect of vocabulary review?2.Compared with the traditional review method of English vocabulary,does mind mapping have a more significant effect on the improvement of students’ vocabulary?3.What is the influence of using mind map to review vocabulary on students’ application of vocabulary?The experimental results show that: 1.by applying the mind map in vocabulary review,the students in the experimental class improved their vocabulary test scores more significantly,compared with the comparative class.In particular,the experimental class as a whole has made great progress in the aspects of word meaning discrimination,word form transformation and vocabulary application.2.On the whole,students have a positive attitude towards mind map.They believe that mind map can stimulate the interest in vocabulary review and enrich vocabulary review strategies.This study proves the feasibility of the application of mind map in vocabulary review of middle school students,and also that mind map plays a positive role in stimulating students’ interest in vocabulary review,optimizing review strategies and improving the comprehensive application level of vocabulary.In order to better apply mind map to the English vocabulary review in middle schools,we suggest that the teaching mode of mind map should be implemented in the English vocabulary review teaching in middle schools,so as to promote the effective improvement of students’ thinking quality,and provide help for the improvement of students’ vocabulary accumulation,learning interest and learning effect.
