| "Hiroshi Sugimoto is one of the most respected photographers of our time. His subjects come from interpretations of art, history, science and religion. He perfectly combines Eastern philosophical ideas with Western cultural themes." This is the comment on the 2001 winner of the prestigious Hasbrand Prize for Photography, the Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto."If Araki is an erotic photographer,Hiroshi Sugimoto is a philosophical photographer." This is what Japanese people say about Hiroshi Sugimoto. His works he set the Asian contemporary photography auction record,no one has ever surpassed. He is the only living photographer among the four Japanese artists on the Times’ list of the 200 greatest artists of the 20 th century. His way of observing the world and thinking is full of Oriental philosophy, his unique way of "making images" which perfectly combines concepts with photographic art,and his discussion on the grand topics of "time, memory and life"...All of them are of great research and discussion value.Throughout the domestic and foreign research literature on the works of Hiroji Sugimoto is very few,so there is a lot of space to explore."Know what it is,know why it is".What is the reason behind Hiroshi Sugimoto’s ability to create so many stunning works? With such questions and curiosity,I started this research.I consulted books on photography theory and deeply studied three personal works of Hiroshi Sugimoto, which laid a reliable theoretical and academic foundation for this research. This paper deeply explores Hiroshi Sugimoto’s philosophical thinking in the process of artistic creation.Firstly,it analyzes the source of philosophical thinking in the process of his creation. This part is of great research value and is one of the emphases of this paper.Secondly, this paper studies the expression form of philosophy in Hiroji Sugimoto’s works, and summarizes the expression rule of philosophy in his artistic creation. The research point of this paper is unique, and there are new discoveries and achievements after exploration, which are of great reference value and significance for the study of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s photographic works as well as his own photography learning and creation. |
