Small town is located at the junction of urban and rural areas. As a buffer zone between "city" and "township",small town is the most representative of China’s modernization process. Therefore, the writing of "small town" has been widely concerned and valued by literary circles. For the "Post-70s" writers, many of them grew up in small cities, which made their writing begin in a transitional field with both urban and rural elements,so small cities became their literary base.As a member of the Post-70 s writers,Zhang Chu has a unique way to outline his hometown LUANNAN COUNTY,Tangshan City,Hebei Province.Through his keen capture of the inner world of the people in the small town and his poetic narration of daily life,Zhang Chu completed the presentation of the true face of the life in the small town, and also explained the value and significance of the true life. This paper attempts to start from Zhang Chu’s life experience,to find the relationship between his life experience and creation, and to use a variety of research methods to interpret Zhang Chu’s novels,so as to have a comprehensive grasp of Zhang Chu’s novel creation. From the perspective of small town literature,we can not only understand the key words of Zhang Chu’s novels, but also enrich the research experience of current small town literature. The first chapter mainly traces the influence of the writer’s childhood memory, family environment and life experience on his literature,as well as the Enlightenment of rich reading history and film literature on his literary creation through his interviews and some of his essays. The purpose of this chapter is to go into the depth of Zhang Chu’s literary creation,to find the connection between his life experience and creation, and to trace the formation process of the writer’s "sense of reality" and "literary view",to clarify why he wrote about the small town, how he thought about the small town he lived in,how he used the material of the small town to write, and how his writing concept was when he constructed the literature of the small town. The second chapter mainly interprets the characteristics of the small town in Zhang Chu’s novels through close reading.Small town is located at the junction of urban and rural areas. It is precisely because of its unique geographical location that it is compatible with urban and rural civilizations. Therefore, here we can not only see the shadow of rural civilization, but also feel that the small town is affected by the city, and these factors mutate here, resulting in a unique small town culture. This chapter, through the specific analysis of the small town in Zhang Chu’s works, points out the various features and inner spiritual temperament of the small town,as well as Zhang Chu’s attitude towards the small town.At the same time,it puts Zhang Chu into the coordinate axis of modern and contemporary small town literature, and highlights the uniqueness of Zhang Chu’s small town through horizontal and vertical comparison. The third chapter mainly explains the literary significance and writing characteristics of Zhang Chu’s writing of Xiaocheng. On the one hand,it reveals the deep direction of reflecting social changes and reflecting reality through the writing of small cities.Zhang Chu’s small town is any city in the process of China’s urbanization, which has already gone beyond the "Taoyuan town" where he lives, and is the epitome of China’s road to modernization.Small as the town is,it implies a wider world. On the other hand, the cultural geographical space created by him takes the small city as the carrier, but goes beyond the scope of geography and has a clear direction to the spiritual space, which implies the moral and ethical dilemma of modern people.Through his small town people,we can see the depth of the spiritual world beyond the universal sense of the time and place. The achievement of this kind of literary significance benefits from his being good at both realism and modernism. He not only responds to and thinks about the problems of the times and society, but also has poetic and ethereal lyrical expression, thus forming his own unique literary style.
