This thesis takes the European immigration and related policies of the major European countries as the research object, making a detailed analysis of the emergence of European immigration and the evolution of immigration policies over the last century. The world wars have prompted the reversal of the migration flow of European countries from external migration to internal imports. With the development of the international political and economic situation, the types of immigrant groups in European countries have experienced from labor immigration, family reunion immigration to refugees as well as illegal immigrants.Accordingly, the European countries' immigration policies have also undergone a transition from lax to strict, and to balanced.During this process, three major immigrant countries,Britain,France and Germany, have formed their own characteristic models of immigrant social integration. However, under the influence of various factors such as political ideology, economic development, cultural values, and social integration policies,Europe in the new century is facing unprecedented immigration governance challenges: major changes in immigrant subjects and the emergence of disadvantages of immigration social integration policies, frequent major social conflicts and the polarized mainstream sentiment. The current situation of European immigration is showing brand-new characteristics.Although those previous European immigration policies are temporarily in trouble, the search for solutions to the immigration problem should still focus on the future of Europe and the common interests of all European nations.Last but not least, the Europe ought to construct a sense of community of common destiny and a common desire for harmonious coexistence.
