As China enters an aging society,multi-generation coexistence has become a reality.Due to the differences in ideology and behavior style between generations, communication contradictions are deepening day by day. However,a variety of real cases show that the intergenerational conflicts between college students and the elderly are more serious. Moreover, due to the Chinese tradition of respecting the elderly, the elderly have a sense of superiority when communicating with college students, which makes the communication contradictions between college students and the elderly internalized and difficult to fundamentally ease. The media's shaping of people's ability to adapt to communication may be an opportunity for improvement. In addition,as college students go to other places to study,long-distance family communication has become normal, and communication media has become the core bond to consolidate college students' family relations, but it also brings the possibility of deepening family conflicts. Therefore,it is of urgent significance to study the role of media in college students' family communication and social intergenerational communication, and to find ways to ease the intergenerational conflicts. In addition, the existing domestic researches on family communication mostly focus on the differences of intergenerational media use, while the researches on intergenerational communication mostly focus on qualitative researches. This study introduces family communication pattern theory and media synchronicity theory into the field of family communication, studies the specific utility of communication media through the deduced mediation model, and enriches the quantitative research on intergenerational communication, which has certain innovation and theoretical value. This study sorts out the literature related to family communication patterns, media use and intergenerational communication, the introduction of new perspective media communication mode,Then introduce a new perspective of Computer-mediated communication, through the integration and derivation of previous studies, put forward research hypotheses, and derive the "family communication patterns-Computer-mediated communication-family social support-intergenerational communication" four-variable mediation model,To study the mediating role of different Computer-mediated communication in the relationship between family communication patterns and family social support and between family communication patterns and intergenerational communication.Based on pre-investigation,this study investigated college students in several provinces and cities including Guangdong,Beijing,Jiangsu and Shanghai through online questionnaires designed.A total of 564 valid questionnaires were obtained. The results of the Process mediation check show that:The use of synchronous media, such as voice chat, will affect college students' access to family emotional support; The use of voice chat in idea-oriented families will affect the access to family emotional support, and then affect the intergenerational communication of college students;Idea-oriented family has a direct effect on family emotional support and intergenerational communication;Relation-oriented families will affect the access to family information support through the use of asynchronous communication modes such as text communication;Relationship-oriented families will influence intergenerational communication through the use of text communication;Relation-oriented families will influence family information support and intergenerational communication through the use of asynchronous media communication mode;Relational-oriented family has a direct effect on family information support and intergenerational communication. In conclusion,The implications of this study are as follows:In reality, firstly, the combination of synchronous media and asynchronous media is beneficial to family harmony and the cultivation of communication ability.Secondly,it is suggested that the proper use of emoticons can foster emotional expression.Third,it shows that we should pay attention to the expression of children's opinions and parents' guidance, and cultivate the ability of adaptation. Finally, the study suggests that we should pay more attention to the fundamental role of face-to-face chat in family relationships.Theoretically, this study will improve the media research, supplement the direction of media effectiveness and quantitative research in this field, and improve the communication research system.Based on the analysis of theoretical and practical significance,I summarize the research limitations and expands the future research direction.
