A Narratological Study Of The Chinese Women's Volleyball Team Reported By People's Daily Since The Reform And Opening Up

China has made great achievements in social,political,economic,cultural and other fields under the correct leadership of the Communist Party of China.As an important time node of China's social transformation,the reform and opening up has an important impact on China's politics,economy,culture and other aspects.During the 40 years of reform and opening up,People's Daily has faithfully recorded the important historical events in the social transformation period by adhering to the correct guidance of public opinion,and it has become the media mirror image of the changing times.As a typical example of sports development in China after the reform and opening up,China Women's Volleyball Team's media image of solidarity,hardworking and struggling upwards has become the spiritual driving force for the continuous progress of the Chinese nation,and it has also become the sports memory across three generations of Chinese people.In the span of 40 years,the reports about Chinese Women's Volleyball Team have been endowed with different political and cultural functions at different stages of social development,and there has been a change from the one-dimensional narrative of politics to the multi-dimensional narrative in the context of consumption,which reflects the transformation of Chinese social culture and concept.Therefore,it is of great practical significance and academic value to clarify the narrative rheological characterization of news report about Chinese Women's Volleyball and the political,economic,cultural and technological factors behind it,and to explore its narrative deficiencies and solutions in the context of reform and opening up.By adopting literature study method,text analysis method,discourse analysis method and other research methods,and with the help of People's Daily Database,People's Daily Graphic Database,China Digital Bookstore Electronic Database and CNKI Core Newspaper Database,this paper sorts out and summarizes all the reports about Chinese Women's Volleyball Team from January 1980 to December 2019 in order to provide text content for conducting narratological analysis.Furthermore,with the help of ROST CM 6.0 text processing tool,this paper analyzes the narrative text of the Chinese Women's Volleyball Team reported by the People's Daily with four dimensions of narratological analysis,explores the narrative rheological characterization,narrative deficiencies and social causes of the report,and puts forward the countermeasures.This paper argues that:1.As a mainstream media,People's Daily spans time and witnesses the history of several generations of Chinese.Its development has gone through several changes,and therefore it deserves to be a mainstream newspaper with the influence of the times;In People's Daily,the reports about Chinese Women's Volleyball Team,as a typical target of news report,play an important role in guiding mainstream values and building consensus.The research finds that,in terms of the number of reports,the number of reports about Chinese Women's Volleyball Team in People's Daily varies greatly,which shows a positive correlation with the event cycle and race results;reports of events information and positive image publicity are the primary narrative issues,which mainly aim at constructing positive media images;in terms of emotional tendency,reports with positive attitudes account for a large proportion,which has a phenomenon of avoiding negative news.In addition,in the network map of high-frequency words,the high-frequency words related to commercial value appear less frequently.2.This paper analyzes the reports about Chinese Women's Volleyball Team in People's Daily by using four dimensions of narratology.From the perspective of narrators' focus mode,before the news reform in the mid and late 1980 s,there are many subjective interventions in the reports of Chinese Women's Volleyball team,the focus mode is single,and the intention of political preaching is obvious and deliberate;under the background of marketization,the narrative distance is increasing,the mode of interior narrator-internal focus appears,which creates an objective narrative effect close to sports facts report;along with the development of network media,the narrative mode of Chinese Women's Volleyball reports is also changing to a more diversified narrative and focus mode by following the pace of the integration of all media.From the perspective of the types of narrative characters,People's Daily has created ideal characters that meet the needs of the society by virtue of character selection and characterization in different periods.The selection and characterization of narrative characters mainly belong to the functional view of characters.From the perspective of narrative theme,the reports about Chinese Women's Volleyball Team has also been expanding its connotation and detonation along with social changes,which change from the original one-dimensional political discourse system to a multi-dimensional discourse system with the coexistence of political discourse,cultural discourse,commercial discourse and other discourses.From the perspective of narrative style,the reports about Chinese Women's Volleyball Team also develop towards the direction of theoretical speculation and abundant purport.The diversified media forms and social orientation force People's Daily to adopt more diversified narrative styles when reporting Chinese Women's Volleyball Team.3.There are following shortcomings for People's Daily in reporting Chinese Women's Volleyball Team: the narrative selection is unbalanced and unregulated,the stylized narrative logic and theme as well as excessive nationalism complex cannot meet the public's new aesthetic demand for publicity.Therefore,in the current process of integrated media development,it is necessary to balance the selection of topics and enhance the empowerment of the discourse power of losers and nobodies,give full play to the professional ability of traditional media to discover,select and create news content,strengthen the position of journalistic professionalism,continue to deepen the degree of media integration,improve the central kitchen mechanism by relying on the platform,encourage the secondary processing of first-hand news,seize the advantages of traditional media's in-depth reporting and comprehensively report news in different angles.
