Iron and steel industry is the basic and pillar industry of national economic development,with wide application fields and large production base.Since the 21 st century,the rapid growth of iron and steel industry has met the needs of economic development and social construction,but also accompanied by high energy consumption,high pollution problems.As an important supporting industry of China’s economic development and a key industry of carbon emissions,the iron and steel industry should strengthen the consensus of emission reduction,undertake the responsibility of emission reduction,and make due contributions to the overall realization of carbon peak in China.Under the background of "double carbon" goal,it is of great significance to analyze the decoupling state of carbon emissions of the steel industry and discuss the path of carbon emission reduction of the steel industry,which is of great significance to the scientific formulation of carbon peak and carbon neutral action plan of the steel industry and the realization of high-quality development.Firstly,this thesis introduces the definition and characteristics of the iron and steel industry,the connotation of the "dual carbon" goal and related policies,expounds the theoretical basis of carbon emission research,including the growth limit theory,environmental Kuznets curve theory,decoupling theory,Kaya identity,etc.Secondly,it analyzes the development of China’s steel industry and the status of carbon emissions,and further puts forward the problems existing in China’s steel industry.In terms of carbon emission level,the temporal and spatial characteristics of carbon emissions from steel industry are described,and the regional differences of carbon emissions are measured by Theil index.The third part uses Tapio decoupling model to analyze the decoupling state between the steel industry development level and carbon emissions in China and eight comprehensive economic zones,and identifies the northern coastal region and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River as key areas of concern according to the decoupling state.Fourthly,the LMDI model is used to decompose the influencing factors of steel industry carbon emissions into six driving factors: carbon emission coefficient effect,energy consumption structure effect,energy intensity effect,economic activity effect,technology level effect and steel output effect.The influence direction and degree of driving factors on carbon emission of steel industry at national level,northern coastal area and middle reaches of Yangtze River are analyzed.Finally,some suggestions for optimizing the development path of Chinese iron and steel industry are put forward.The results show that there are some problems in China’s iron and steel industry,such as low industrial concentration,high proportion of high carbon energy consumption in energy structure,and insufficient investment in technology research and development.In terms of decoupling state,China’s steel industry has not achieved stable and strong decoupling state between economic growth and carbon emission level at national and regional levels,and further carbon reduction is still needed.From the perspective of carbon emission driving factors,the changes of energy consumption structure,energy intensity,technological level,economic activities and steel output will affect the carbon emissions of steel industry.Iron and steel industry to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutral,to optimize the structure of energy consumption,reduce the high carbon energy consumption ratio,secondly,to reduce energy intensity,improve the efficiency of energy utilization,third,we need to enhance investment in R&D subsidies and funds,and promote technological progress of iron and steel industry,four is to control the steel production,steel industry emission reduction work to five points area,Sixth,we should give full play to the role of the government in carbon emission reduction in the steel industry and promote energy conservation and emission reduction in the steel industry through multiple channels.There are three possible innovations in this thesis.First,the iron and steel industry is selected as the research object to enrich the theoretical research on carbon emissions in the field of iron and steel industry.Second,the decoupling state between economic growth and carbon emission of steel industry is studied.The third is to decompose the carbon emission driving factors of steel industry into carbon emission coefficient,energy consumption structure,energy intensity,economic activity,technological level and steel output.In previous studies,the technological level factors were not independently decomposed.
