As the main decision-making basis for ecological protection and sustainable management, ecosystem services(ES)is of great significance for coordinating the harmonious development of man and nature and providing human well-being.Although the research of ES has been enriched in the past few decades,it is mostly based on natural science research. As the carrier of non-material contribution of ecosystem to mankind, cultural ecosystem services(CES)is ignored by researchers because it is difficult to measure accurately. In recent years, although the research related to CES has attracted more and more attention, there are few studies on the relationship between perception and its complex driving mechanism; The selection of variables lacks the guidance of a comprehensive framework, and the methods used are extremely limited. Most of them quantify the net impact of single variables on the results, which is easy to produce a one-sided understanding. Some areas with unique landform and fragile ecological environment are difficult to study, and few studies are involved. As one of the important and fragile ecosystems on earth, the research on the service value provided by karst ecosystem is insufficient.Guangxi karst is a typical representative of karst areas in southern China, with unique karst landform types. Then, how residents, the direct beneficiaries of karst ecosystem, perceive the value of CES in karst areas, and what factors drive their perception; How can we effectively improve the perception of CES? If these questions can be answered accurately,it will have great practical significance for promoting ecological sustainable development and improving residents’ well-being.The experience gained can provide enlightenment for the development of other karst areas.Based on this, this paper takes a typical karst area-Guilin Xingping as the research area, evaluates residents’ perception of local cultural ecosystem services through field research, and tries to use qualitative comparative analysis(QCA)to deeply explore the driving mechanism behind perception. The research conclusions are as follows:(1)Different respondents have different feelings about similar CES services. When making relevant ecological decisions, managers should take the needs of residents as the premise.Among them, mental and physical health, aesthetics, and sense of place are the three types of services most perceived by Xingping residents, which have a direct impact on Residents’ lives,so they are more concerned and valued. However, the perception of inspiration service is the lowest, which may be because residents are used to local life, which relatively weakens the spiritual feeling brought by the ecosystem, which also means that they have less demand for inspiration from the scenery.(2)The satisfaction of material needs is the basis for further improving residents’ spiritual perception and pursuit.Only by reaching the leading demand for materials can we further realize the subordinate demand and better perceive CES.(3)Optimizing the ability of managers, perfecting the system and increasing the utilization experience of ecosystem have more than 50%probability to improve the perception of CES.It can be understood that effective management and perfect system can fully ensure the quality of life of residents and improve their satisfaction and happiness.Increasing the utilization experience can deepen the residents’ attention and dependence on the local ecosystem,so as to deepen the perception of CES.(4)The factors affecting residents’ perception of CES are multidimensional and complex. There is an asymmetric relationship between the driving mechanism of high-level and low-level CES perception,so we can not blindly resist the conditions leading to low-level CES perception.Managers should choose different paths to optimize the socio-economic conditions that may affect perception according to the local actual situation and development endowment, and pay attention to the realization of core conditions and auxiliary conditions.
