The Yellow River basin plays an important strategic role in the overall situation of national development and socialist modernization. The strategy of ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin makes the green development and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin into a new pursuit and new goal.Innovation is the first driving force of development. The cultivation and development of the green innovation ecosystem in the Yellow River basin can maximize the use of the green innovation resources in the basin, stimulate the green innovation will and power of the innovator and better serve the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin.Just under this circumstance, this paper analyzes the characteristics of spatial evolution and driving factors of the development level of the green innovation ecosystem in the Yellow River basin, aiming to comprehensively and systematically get the picture of the development of the green innovation ecosystem in the Yellow River basin, which is meaningful Theoretically and practically for promoting the development of the green innovation ecosystem in the Yellow River basin. This paper attempts to explore the spatial evolution characteristics and driving factors of the development level of the green innovation ecosystem in the Yellow River basin along the line of "problem statement-theoretical analysis-empirical analysis-policy enlightenment".In the empirical analysis, the five spiral theory is used to construct the evaluation index system of the development level index of the green innovation ecosystem. The research period is from 2011 to 2020.The 99 cities in the Yellow River basin are divided into two types: upstream, middle and downstream;resource-based cities and non-resource-based cities. The evolution characteristics of spatial differences, spatial convergence and spatial correlation of the green innovation ecosystem development in the Yellow River basin are explored respectively by using Gini coefficient decomposition method, kernel density estimation method,αconvergence method,β absolute convergence method, gravity model and social network analysis method. The analysis methods of driving factors are panel regression analysis and geographical weighted regression analysis. The main findings are:Firstly, the development level of the green innovation ecosystem in the Yellow River basin was relatively low but steadily improving during the study period. The comparison results of overall development level of the green innovation ecosystem is "midstream>downstream>upstream",and "non-resource-based cities>resource-based cities".The number of high-level cities is small, and the development level of the green innovation ecosystem in provincial capital cities is often relatively high. The development level of the green innovation ecosystem is spatially related in the spatial distribution.Secondly, from the evolution characteristics of spatial differences, the overall differences of the development level of green innovation ecosystem tend to decline during the study period, and the comparison results of the spatial differences within the region are "upstream>middle reaches>downstream","non-resource-based cities>resource-based cities".From the perspective of evolution characteristics of spatial convergence, the development level of the system in the basin has experienced changes from divergence to convergence, with absolute β Convergence characteristics, and the comparison results of convergence speed is "upstream>midstream>downstream","resource-based cities>non-resource-based cities".From the perspective of the evolution characteristics of spatial correlation, the spatial correlation of the development level of the inter-urban system in the river basin is gradually strengthened, but the overall correlation level is still low.Geographic distance is an important factor affecting the spatial correlation of the node cities.Provincial capital cities play an important role in the spatial connection network, which is reflected in the radiation, control and leadership in the network. Finally, the improvement of economic environment and market conditions can effectively promote the development of green innovation ecosystem, especially in the geographical edge cities of the basin. The improvement of financing environment can significantly improve the development level of green innovation ecosystem in downstream cities, some cities in the middle reaches and non-resource-based cities. The level of opening to the outside world can significantly improve the development level of the overall green innovation ecosystem in the midstream region and resource-based cities, but its impact on the development level of urban individual system is unfavorable. The impact of education level on urban individual system development level is not significant.Based on the above research conclusions, this paper draws policy recommendations to promote the development of green innovation ecosystem in low level areas, narrow the gap between regions in the development of green innovation ecosystem, strengthen regional cooperation in green innovation, and continuously promote the construction of regional green innovation ecosystem according to local conditions. The main innovation of this paper is to construct the evaluation index system of green innovation ecosystem development level index and measure its development level index, enrich the research on the regional level of the innovation ecosystem through the analysis of the development and evolution of the urban green innovation ecosystem in small spatial scale and establish the analysis model of driving factors for the development of green innovation ecosystem. In the selection of indicators,we try to introduce indicators that reflect the green characteristics of the innovation ecosystem.
