Along with the continuous development of our social economy, the process of industrialization and urbanization is gradually accelerating, the contradiction between our economic growth and environmental problems is increasingly serious. At present,China adheres to the green development concept of "Lucian waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets",maintains a balanced and stable development of the economy and the ecological environment, and ADAPTS environmental governance to residents’ quality of life and living conditions.Only in this way can people feel a sense of gain, happiness and security. Therefore, this paper mainly studies the impact and mechanism of government environmental governance on residents’ life satisfaction.By combing relevant literature and combining environmental externality theory,Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, human settlement environment scientific theory, social trust theory and other theories, this paper defines related concepts, and analyzes the direct and indirect effects of government environmental governance on residents’ life satisfaction. This paper mainly adopts the data of China’s Comprehensive Survey of Social Conditions(CSS)in 2019 and the data of China’s Environmental Statistical Yearbook in 2020 to establish the relationship between government environmental governance and residents’ life satisfaction, and uses multiple linear regression to explore the direct effect of government environmental governance on residents’ life satisfaction. And the mediation effect model is used to explore the indirect impact of government environmental governance on residents’ life satisfaction. The study found that the government environmental governance has a significant positive impact on residents’ life satisfaction, that is,the better the government environmental governance, the higher the residents’ life satisfaction. In addition, robustness test was conducted by replacing core variables and estimation methods, and the regression results were still consistent with linear regression, proving that improving the degree of government environmental governance can improve residents’ life satisfaction. Then, through the heterogeneity analysis, the results show that the life satisfaction of urban residents is higher than that of rural residents, which may be due to the superior geographical location, resource conditions and living conditions of urban residents,so it is easier to obtain satisfaction.Residents in the eastern region have the lowest life satisfaction, those in the central region have the highest life satisfaction, and those in the western region have the highest life satisfaction. This may be because the eastern region is more developed and has superior economic conditions,so it puts forward higher requirements for environmental governance. In the central region, natural resources and environmental conditions are relatively general,so it is easy to get satisfaction.Due to the poor natural environment, scarce material resources and poor living conditions in the western region, environmental governance has improved the living environment and quality of life of local residents, resulting in the highest life satisfaction. Finally, the indirect impact of government environmental governance on residents’ life satisfaction was further studied through the mediation effect test. The mediation effect model was used to explore whether human settlement environment and social trust played an intermediary role in the impact of government environmental governance on residents’ life satisfaction. The research showed that: first, government environmental governance could not indirectly affect residents’ life satisfaction through human settlement environment. This may be because the government’s environmental governance may only be macro-level governance, without effectively improving living conditions.Secondly, government environmental governance can indirectly affect residents’ life satisfaction through social trust.Government environmental governance can also significantly improve residents’ trust in the government and trust between people, thus improving residents’ life satisfaction.Based on the empirical research results, this paper proposes targeted policies for government environmental governance by urban and rural areas and regions, strengthens environmental governance capacity and supervision capacity, improves environmental governance system and institutions, adapts to local conditions, and actively develops environmental policies in line with local development according to urban and rural heterogeneity and regional heterogeneity. The paper also puts forward targeted measures from the point of view that the government should strengthen environmental governance, effectively improve the living environment and living conditions in the residence, and enhance social trust to improve the environmental governance of the government indirectly affect the life satisfaction of residents, that is,strengthen efforts to improve the quality of the living environment, improve the credibility and transparency of the government’s environmental governance. |
