Research On Traditional Brocade Patterns Of H’mong Ethnic Group In Vietnam Based On Semiotics

As a branch of the Miao ethnic group in China,the Hmong people of Vietnam have long history and cultural heritage.Hmong brocade is an important part of Hmong culture,which not only has a unique ethnic color,but also rich with semiotic significance.The brocade pattern is a living document that records the historical changes of the Hmong people,and through research on this document,the cultural connotation of Hmong culture and religious belief can be further explored.The design and application of Hmong brocade patterns in products is relatively rare,therefore,this study constructs product design methods and processes for Hmong brocade patterns by in-depth study of Hmong brocade patterns,to promote their inheritance and development.Based on semiotic theory,this study comprehensively analyzes the pattern theme,pattern color,pattern structure and process technology,and deeply analyzes the cultural connotation,characteristic significance and aesthetic value of brocade pattern.Combined with the shape grammar rules,the pattern is deduced,and the product innovation design was carried out through the integration of the pattern and the product.The main research contents are summarized below.(1)Research and data analysis of Hmong brocade patterns.Through literature review,field investigation and interviews,research materials were obtained,and the historical origin of the Hmong people and the development history of their brocade patterns were examined.Based on the literature,pictures and other materials of the Hmong brocade pattern,the subject characteristics,structure and color of the brocade pattern are summarized to form the basic cognition of the Hmong brocade pattern.(2)Research on the Hmong brocade pattern based on semiotic theory.In-depth analysis of the theme,color,structural layout and production process of the pattern from the perspective of the signifier;From the perspective of the reference,the cultural connotation,cultural characteristics and aesthetic value of the Hmong brocade pattern were comprehensively analyzed,and the influencing factors and research value of the Hmong brocade pattern were discussed.(3)Construction of innovative design method of Hmong brocade pattern based on shape grammar.Firstly,the design and application scope of the Hmong brocade pattern is analyzed.Secondly,the target products and user needs are determined through questionnaire-based surveys;then,an innovative design method of Hmong brocade pattern was constructed based on shape,and the fusion design of pattern and product was carried out.Finally,the feasibility of the proposed method is verified by design cases.In summary,this study uses semiotic theory to analyze the aesthetic characteristics and cultural connotations of Hmong brocade patterns.An innovative design method of Hmong brocade pattern was constructed by shape grammar,and the case studies were carried out.The analysis and deduction design methods of cultural symbols constructed,enrich the research content of Hmong tapestry,and can also provide useful references for the innovative design with other products of similar cultural heritage.
