As a leading economic province in China,Guangdong has attracted a large number of foreign investment by virtue of its reform and opening up and its geographical advantages adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, and has formed a fairly complete industrial system structure in the past 40 years. However, the manufacturing industry, which has made a great contribution to the system, has fallen into the dilemma of low level of technical power, weak competitiveness, high energy consumption and serious pollution. In order to enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry in China and Guangdong Province, while saving energy and reducing emissions, experts and scholars focus on the path of manufacturing service. However, the existing research rarely discusses the relationship between manufacturing service and carbon emission in a specific province. In view of this, based on the specific province of Guangdong, this paper discusses whether the service-oriented input of manufacturing industry can reduce the regional carbon dioxide emission? Which service factors have a strong effect on carbon emission reduction? While making up the corresponding research gap, this paper puts forward policy suggestions to realize "green Guangdong".This paper carries out the research by means of theoretical analysis before empirical test.Firstly, based on the three paths of professional division of labor, technology improvement and industrial structure, this paper expounds how the serviceoriented input of manufacturing industry plays a role in carbon emission. Then, using the input-output tables and statistical yearbooks of Guangdong Province in 2005,2007,2010,2012,2015 and 2017,this paper calculates the input service indicators and carbon dioxide emissions of 17 manufacturing industries. Then, based on the panel data of 17 manufacturing industries in 6 years, combined with STIRPAT model, this paper empirically studies the impact of manufacturing service on carbon dioxide emission in Guangdong Province. The results show that:(1)the service-oriented investment of manufacturing industry has a positive impact on carbon emission reduction;(2)The service-oriented degree of manufacturing investment and carbon emission conform to Kuznets inverted "U" model, and Guangdong Province is in the decline stage at this stage, that is,with the improvement of the service-oriented level of manufacturing investment, the carbon emission decreases gradually;(3)Wholesale and retail, information and communication, finance and insurance, technology R & D service factor investment can have a positive impact on carbon emission reduction.
