| In recent years, global warming problem is getting worse, and has received attention around the world. As the world’s largest factory,China has penetrated into the global value chain system and is under the dual pressure of domestic and foreign carbon emission reduction. As a responsible developing country,China has integrated climate change into its overall economic development, gradually shifting from an extensive and rapid growth model that relies mainly on the consumption of material resources to an environment-friendly and high-quality development model that relies mainly on technological progress and structural optimization. With the gradual rise of a new round of industrial revolution, intelligent, green and low-carbon industrial manufacturing systems have become an important driving force for sustainable development.Compared with material input factors, intelligent input has lower resource consumption and environmental cost,so intelligent manufacturing shows more positive ecological and environmental benefits. From the perspective of intelligent manufacturing, this paper explores the influence of intelligent manufacturing on the carbon emission intensity of manufacturing industry. It can put forward countermeasures and suggestions to suppress carbon emission intensity more comprehensively. This paper explores the influence of intelligent manufacturing on carbon emission intensity of manufacturing industry by combining theoretical research and empirical analysis.First, this paper sort out the influence effect of intelligent manufacturing, environmental effect of participating in the global value chain and influencing factors of carbon emission intensity.Secondly, this paper analyzes the possible channels of intelligent manufacturing affecting carbon emission intensity of manufacturing industry through theoretical research, and puts forward reasonable assumptions. Finally, based on the WIOD database, this paper uses the data of 13 manufacturing industries in 39 economies from 2000 to 2011 to conduct empirical research. The results show that: First, intelligent manufacturing can effectively curb the carbon emission intensity of manufacturing; Moreover, the core conclusion still holds after further robustness tests such as replacement of core variables, and change of sample period. And this conclusion remains significant after considering endogeneity.Second, heterogeneous results show that intelligent manufacturing has a significant negative impact on the carbon emission intensity of high-tech industries and capital-and-technology-intensive industries, and intelligent manufacturing can significantly reduce the carbon emission intensity of pollution-intensive industries, and its inhibition effect on the carbon emission intensity of developing countries is more significant.Thirdly, the analysis of the mediating effect model shows that energy consumption structure and global value chain division of labor are two feasible paths. That is,intelligent manufacturing can reduce the carbon emission intensity of the manufacturing industry by improving the non-clean energy consumption structure and enhancing the global value chain division of labor. At the same time, this paper has important implications for China’s intelligent manufacturing transformation and the realization of the“dual carbon” goal. |
