The improvement and deepening of the international trade system has promoted the extension of the global value chain to multiple links in the product production chain. The in-depth participation of the global value chain in helping China’s economic development is accompanied by resource consumption and environmental damage. It is also an urgent concern.Carbon emissions, especially carbon dioxide emissions, cover various issues in the world economy, society, ecology and politics. The resource and environmental problems brought about by carbon emissions drive countries to tighten carbon emissions policies. In 2022,the "dual carbon" target was written into the government work report for the second time, and continued the path of "establishing first and then breaking" the carbon emission reduction work emphasized in the previous report, and paid close attention to the "dual carbon" emission reduction work. The "Paris Agreement" made commitments on China’s total carbon emissions(carbon peak)and carbon emissions intensity(down 60%)in 2030.The green transition of China’s manufacturing industry is related to the core of social and ecological civilization construction, and the issue of carbon dioxide emissions It has become a social concern, and carbon intensity has gradually become a key indicator for measuring carbon emissions in manufacturing due to the overall consideration of economic and ecological issues.Currently in the new historical pattern of "dual circulation",international trade embedded in the global value chain avoids becoming a "pollution paradise" for developed countries, and the gradual completion of the "dual carbon" goal is an upgrade road to explore the green transformation of China’s manufacturing industry..Based on this,it is necessary to clarify the status of China’s manufacturing carbon emission intensity and global value chain embedded status at this stage? What is the impact mechanism of GVC embedded status on the carbon emission intensity of manufacturing? How to build a policy framework for the green transformation response mechanism of the manufacturing industry in the future? In order to answer the above questions, this study firstly analyzes the influencing factors of manufacturing carbon emission intensity from the theoretical level, and builds a model of the impact mechanism of GVC embedded status on carbon emission intensity. The influence direction and effect intensity of status on carbon emission intensity;then use the global value chain position index and carbon emission intensity measurement method to grasp the status quo of China’s manufacturing global value chain embedded position and carbon emission intensity; The direct and indirect effects of value chain embedded status, energy structure,R&D investment and foreign direct investment on carbon emission intensity, and the heterogeneity of the manufacturing industry is discussed. The main conclusions drawn from this paper are as follows:(1)The theoretical mechanism of the impact of the embedded position of the global value chain on the carbon emission intensity of China’s manufacturing industry mainly starts from the three dimensions of technological progress, structural upgrading and scale effect.First,China’s manufacturing enterprises embedded in the global value chain can absorb the technology and experience spillovers attached to the value chain and integrate them into the whole process of the manufacturing industry, thereby improving energy efficiency and reducing unnecessary energy consumption. However, the "low-end capture" effect of the global value chain in the manufacturing industry will also inhibit the impact of technological innovation on green transformation to a certain extent.Second, the embedding of the manufacturing industry into the global value chain will trigger a structural upgrading effect on its industry.Under the consumption pattern where energy is dominated by coal, the adjustment of the industrial structure will be alleviated by the heterogeneity of energy consumption among industries.Energy consumption and carbon emissions.Third,China’s manufacturing industry is still embedded in the low-end position of the global value chain. The rise of the value chain position in the low-end capture will bring serious resource waste and environmental pollution problems while increasing the industry’s GDP,which is not conducive to Curb the high carbon intensity of manufacturing.(2)From the perspective of the embedded position of the global value chain,it can be clearly found that the position of the manufacturing industry in the global value chain has significant industry heterogeneity. At present,China’s manufacturing industry is at the higher end of the global value chain, mainly in capital-intensive industries including paper, coke and metal processing. The position of technology-intensive industries including the industry in the global value chain has not yet escaped the "low-end lock-in".On the other hand, from the perspective of manufacturing carbon emission intensity, the overall carbon emission intensity level of China’s manufacturing industry is much higher than that of developed countries such as Europe and the United States. In terms of sub-sectors,technology-intensive industries(computer optics, etc.)and Labor-intensive industries represented by textiles, rubber and plastics have low carbon emission intensity, while capital-intensive industries(petroleum, basic metals, etc.)continue to have high carbon emission intensity due to their “resource-oriented” characteristics level.(3)The impact of the embedded position of the global value chain on the carbon emission intensity of China’s manufacturing industry. From the regression results of the model in this paper,it can be seen that because China’s manufacturing industry is still trapped in the "low-end capture" of the global value chain at this stage, the improvement of the embedded position of the global value chain cannot effectively improve the level of my country’s industrial carbon emission intensity. The international trade development of China’s manufacturing industry has effectively promoted economic development, industrial upgrading and industrial progress, but the accompanying ecological and environmental issues need urgent attention. The energy structure and industrial structure have a significant positive effect on the reduction of carbon emission intensity. The impact of foreign direct investment on the carbon emission intensity of the manufacturing industry is not significant, but it will also bring about a reduction in carbon emission intensity. At present,R&D investment has not yet formed an effective positive feedback requires further improvement of input strength and specifications.
