Since the establishment of the dialogue relationship between China and ASEAN,trade has accounted for 13% of the world’s total, covering over 2 billion people in 11 countries and a huge economy with a GDP of6 trillion US dollars, making significant contributions to global economic prosperity and development. As a pillar industry of the national economy, manufacturing plays a particularly important role in its core position.Since the reform and opening up,the development of China’s manufacturing industry has pressed the "accelerator button",promoting the process of modern industrial development. However, compared to advanced countries in the world,China’s manufacturing industry has significant gaps in terms of independent innovation research and development capabilities, resource utilization efficiency, and industrial structure, resulting in a large but not strong situation. Moreover, the traditional foreign trade development method that relies on quantity and scale is no longer competitive, and the task of leapfrog development is urgent and arduous.Based on the panel data of 28 Chinese manufacturing industries’ exports to the ten ASEAN countries from 2005 to 2020,this paper empirically analyzes the impact of green scientific and technological innovation on the quality of export products.Research has found that, firstly,China’s manufacturing industry is developing towards a positive trend in both input and output of green technology innovation.Secondly, among the ten ASEAN countries,China exports higher quality products to countries with higher income levels than to countries with lower income levels.Green technological innovation can significantly promote the improvement of the quality of products exported to ASEAN.Thirdly, from an industry perspective, green technology innovation in medium and high tech industries has the most significant promotion effect on the quality upgrading of products exported to ASEAN,followed by low tech industries and medium and low tech industries, with the weakest effect on high-tech industries. Finally, the robustness test is made on the empirical results, and the referential policy recommendations are put forward based on the actual conditions and research results, which is of great significance to the transformation and upgrading of China’s trade structure and the improvement of the export competitiveness of manufacturing industry.
