Carbon capture, utilization, and storage(CCUS)is an important option for achieving regional carbon neutrality goals. However, the industrial application of CCUS and the extension of its supply chain network inevitably increase the exchange of material flows, leading to new potential safety risk. Therefore,it is necessary to assess the safety risks of the CCUS supply chain network from a systematic perspective,to quantitatively predict the impact of accidents, and to support safety management and emergency rescue. This study develops a comprehensive system modeling and safety risk assessment framework for regional CCUS supply chains, from carbon emission sources to carbon sinks. The main research contents include:(1)To determine the CCUS module list based on the characteristics of the regional CCUS system.Considering a given set of CCUS modules,a regional wide system was proposed through process simulation using Aspen Plus software to obtain quantitative process simulation data.(2)To propose a comprehensive inherent safety comprehensive indicator system to evaluate the risk performance of CCUS from three dimensions of chemicals, processes, and equipments, with 13 sub-indicators.(3)To quantify potential risks from a temporal and spatial perspective, and present a risk map and seasonal safety evaluation model for the CCUS supply chain deployment in a given Dongying City,Shandong Province.(4)To set up various CO2utilization scenarios with different allocation methods, and conduct economic and safety evaluation.(5)To establish an accident simulation model for the entire CCUS supply chain based on ALOHA to obtain the accident impact range of the regional CCUS.Through quantitative accident consequences and risk analysis of the Domino effect of the CCUS system, the critical distances between modules are obtained. In this work, the severity of accidents in each module of the regional CCUS system is analyzed, and the causes of accidents are analyzed based on the comprehensive inherent safety index evaluation system.Safety management can be carried out for each module of the CCUS system.Toxic gas leakage, fire, and explosion accidents are simulated in the CCUS system. The harm to workers and residents in the surrounding is evaluated quantitatively.Risk analysis on the domino effect of the CCUS system is performed to obtain the critical distances between CCUS modules to provide data support for the deployment of the CCUS system.
