Objective: In order to improve disease cognition level and coping styles of parents of children with chronic diseases,raise medical staff’s awareness of importance of family intervention and family health education,and provide references for psychosocial support of children and their families,this study aimed to explore correlations and influencing factors among family function,family flexibility,and parental coping style of children with chronic diseases.Methods: A non-experimental descriptive study was conducted in a Grade III Level A hospital in Weihai.By convenience sampling method,310 eligible parents were recruited from February 2021 to October 2021.The tool collecting data included demographic information questionnaire,family function index questionnaire,Chinese version of the family resilience scale,Chinese version of the parental coping style scale.Descriptive analysis,t-test or variance analysis,Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were performed on the data using SPSS 26.0software.P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Result:(1)The total score of family function of children with chronic diseases was(5.99±2.37),which was moderately impaired.Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences of the scores in children’s age,single-child status,payment method,parents’ age,marital status,household registration,educational level,occupation,and monthly average family income(P<0.05).(2)The total score of family resilience of children with chronic diseases was(120.79±17.89),which was at the lower middle level.Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in the total score of family resilience of children with chronic diseases in the course of disease,single-child status,payment method,parents’ age,marital status,household registration,educational level,occupation,and monthly average family income(P <0.05).(3)The total score of coping style usage frequency was(146.35±31.82)and the effect of that was(75.66±27.25).Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in the course of disease,payment method,only child status,parents’ marriage,education level,occupation and monthly average family income(P<0.05).(4)Correlation analysis showed that family function of children with chronic diseases was positively correlated with family resilience(r=0.681,P<0.01),parental coping style was positively correlated with family function(r=0.697,P < 0.01)and family resilience(r=0.745,P<0.01),and coping style usage frequency was positively correlated with effect size(r=0.912,P<0.01).(5)Family function,family flexibility,and average monthly family income(<3,000 yuan)were important influencing factors of parental coping styles,which together explained 62.5% of the variability.Conclusion:(1)The levels of the family function and the family flexibility of children with chronic diseases were a little lower than the medium,indicating that the family function and family flexibility of the families of children with chronic diseases need to be improved.(2)There were statistically significant differences of coping styles of the parents in demographic characteristics,the course of disease,payment method,only child status,parents’ marriage,educational level,occupation,and monthly average family income.(3)There was a positive correlation between family function and family resilience in children with chronic diseases,that is,the better the family function,the higher the level of family resilience,and vice versa.Parental coping style was positively correlated with family function,parental coping style was positively correlated with family resilience,and the frequency of coping style usage was positively correlated with effect size.(4)The main factors influencing parental coping style include family function,family flexibility,and average monthly family income(<3,000 yuan). |
